Letter To The Editor
To
the Editor,
Ducks are on my mind, as in an odd duck (I’ll expound in a
minute) or ducks in a row. Northwood, in my opinion, has been
going through the doldrums for some time now. There has been
very little or a declining business growth, a stagnant
population, an academically challenged school and our student
count has dropped at least a hundred. None of this has made much
sense to me.
Northwood is a beautiful small town with a myriad of amenities
that is centrally located between all of the larger cities in NH
and who could ask for a better climate than what we all enjoyed
last winter? Well the ducks are all lined up in a row to turn
all of this around.
First, we have signed our SAU Superintendent and his assistant
to two more years. Ms. Despres is starting her second year as
our principal and has brought an energy that is fun to be a part
of. As a School Board member I can say that the last two
meetings were very encouraging, that we are finally talking
about and moving to better educate our students. We have many
new teachers that will be working with our experienced teachers
to keep raising the education bar here in Northwood. Our school
is on the move.
And
we have Joe Gunter who, if you look at his résumé, is not your
average new Town Administrator, an odd duck. Joe is already
bringing an energy to Northwood that is going to move things
along and make our town a better place to live. He and his wife
are moving up from Maryland and are planning to purchase a house
right here in Northwood, I hope that they do. Let’s all welcome
Joe and his wife to Northwood.
I
encourage you to join in. A very dedicated group of people have
brought back the BEAN HOLE BASH. It is this weekend. Check out
the flyer in this week’s Sun. Support their efforts and come out
to an auction, enjoy a delicious bean supper, and dunk one of
our fine police officers. Get involved, support all of the
efforts being made for you and me.
