Letter To The Editor
To the
Editor,
Illegal
aliens/immigration. In my assorted positions, and because I am
interested, I get to hear many spiels by politicians wanting to be
reelected or wannabees. To one that I think might have something
I’ll ask an immigration question. Their answers are generally the
same and really meaningless. They play to the choir.
Liberals, despite their rhetoric and baloney, simply want voters. I
get that. Two faced Republicans (same rhetoric and baloney) want to
please (for donations) business entities who want cheap workers,
especially if they can be paid low under the table wages sans
withholding tax, unemployment, workers comp and so much more. A
$10/hr. illegal is half the price of an on the books $10/hr. citizen
because of all the aforementioned taxes. And the illegal will do
twice the work to keep a job. What a mess, we’re to blame for it,
we voted in the %^&*’s on both sides of the aisle that say one thing
and do another.
There
really is not a problem with immigration but yes we could improve it
some. Two steps. We need to expand while simplifying our guest
worker program. Second, make it so onerous, so debilitating via
fines for any business caught with illegals in their employ that
they will not do it. Give those here first chance to come in and
register as a guest worker. A third, I lied, enforcement.
Illegals by and large have no money, they sent it home. Millions per
day are wired home. Mostly they are good people who understand the
value of families and helping out. But we need to know who and where
they are. They need to be on the same playing field as the rest of
us, paying their fair share of taxes.

A
Guiding Value
The
Time of Signs is returning, and the campaign slogans they espouse:
Stop the Spending! Tax Fighter! More on this silliness later. I
recently became aware of a higher value that will guide me if
elected to represent you: continuous improvement.
I took
some boards I needed cut to length over to my neighbor who has a
table saw in his garage workshop. He did the cutting, knowing that
I am more smart than handy – and had already burned out my circular
saw.
As we
worked, he extolled the virtues of this old saw that he had
“inherited” from the late father of a nephew: a simple table saw
that he – the original owner – had improved in various ways.
My
attention was called to the enlarged work surface he had built
around the top to the saw to better manage what was being cut. The
saw was now mounted on a belt-high stand, with wheels that allowed
in to be easily moved. Pieces of wood on the back allowed the user
to push the saw stand against the wall so that the contraption
didn’t move as the board was pushed through the blade. These
improvements and more were noted.
And it
became clear to me that this will be a guide to me as I review the
legislation before me: does it make things better? Or is it just
“grinding an ax” or an exercise in ideology? Like passing 50
meaningless bills to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
Does it
do the greatest good for the greatest number – or only some narrow
special interest?
I ask
you to support my candidacy so that continuous improvement – making
New Hampshire better – remains at the fore.

Northwood Girl Scouts To Host
Face Painting Station At Bean Hole
Bash
On
Saturday, July 26th, the Northwood Girl Scouts will be hosting a
Face Painting station from 8am-4pm at the Northwood Bean Hole Bash.
The station will be set up next to Town Hall, on Route 4. The cost
will be $4 per child, with all funds going to support local Girl
Scouts on their quest to learn more about the outdoors, camping,
personal responsibility and self-sufficiency.
A team
of creative and artistic volunteers will work hard to satisfy your
little ones’ imaginative face painting wishes. Butterflies? Yes!
Bugs? You bet? Team colors? Absolutely! Spider man? We will do our
best! Come join us for a fun filled day with activities and events
sponsored by numerous local organizations and businesses. While
there, take a moment to talk to the girls and find out what they
have been up to in scouting over the past year. From Bioblitz at the
Seacoast Science Center to Camporee in Vermont; and from archery to
community service; these girls have done it all. We look forward to
seeing you there!
