Letter
Congratulations, Northwood Voters!
We have
met the Enemy and it is...TEACHERS!... Wait... Huh!?!? Well, yeah,
they’re the ones that have “all summer off” and get a day off “for
every holiday known” and “look how much they get paid.” “Where’s the
fire, where’s the dedication?”
Well,
hmm... I don’t think you can feed your family “fire and
dedication”... They usually ask for some form of money at the
grocery store. And I do believe that teachers have homes to heat,
cars that sometimes break down, mortgages to pay, taxes to pay. Oh,
yeah, think about this - teachers, who are also taxpayers, have to
pay part of their own paychecks.
No,
people, they’re not the Enemy - they’re “working stiffs” just like
the rest of you. They just happen to have the higher responsibility
of teaching your children. And, make no mistake, the children may
not be your “flesh and blood” but they are still YOUR children
because they are the FUTURE.
And,
yes, I know this is the “tech” generation, and providing access to
technology is essential. However, even the “tech-y” children don’t
pick it up by osmosis. Somebody has to TEACH them... Oh, my,
there’s that word again.
At any
rate, please consider these points the next time you have to go vote
on a teacher contract - or even talk to or about teachers and/or
their support staff (no, I didn’t forget you). And, try NOT to play
dog in the manger - “Well, if I’m not getting a raise, why should
they?”
Believe
it or not we’re ALL in this together. Thanks for listening. And
teachers and staff - thanks for TEACHING.

Northwood Elementary Kindergarten Registration
The
Northwood Elementary School is again seeking registrations for
students entering kindergarten in the fall of 2014. Kindergarten
registration packets are now available at the school’s main office
or on the website – http://www.northwood.k12.nh.us. Materials
required for registration are proof of a current physical, updated
immunization records, and a copy of your child’s birth certificate,
as well as documentation of residency in the town of Northwood.
The
office will be contacting parents about bringing their child in for
a spring screening and information day to occur later in May or
early June. The entire session will take about 90 minutes and will
include some informal activities for the students, screenings for
speech and occupational therapy, and basic early childhood academic
skills in math and reading. Parents will be given the opportunity
to briefly meet Mrs. Lisa Magnusson, kindergarten teacher, and the
current administration – Mr. Richard Hartford, Principal, and Mrs.
Lisa LaBella, Assistant Principal.
Northwood News: The Center School To Hold Annual Auction
The
Center School in Northwood will hold its annual auction on March
29th at the Bow Lake Grange Hall in Strafford. A preview of the
auction items starts at 6:30pm and the auction will begin at 7:00pm.
There
will be many exciting items to bid on, including two tickets to Pats
Peak, a two night stay at The Lynwood Inn in York Maine, The Beauty
Lounge spa gift bag and gift certificates, belly dancing lessons,
Comedy On Purpose passes, Barnes and Noble book collections, a Huffy
scooter, handmade items, many restaurant and business gift cards,
and the now “famous” preschool bowls. With so many diverse items,
there will be great bargains and lots of fun. A sneak peek of
auction items are showcased on our Facebook page!
The
Center School is a preschool located next to the Northwood Town
Hall. This one-room school house is over 200 years old and funded by
a parent cooperative. Parents raise money for items such as
playground equipment, classroom supplies, and building repairs.
This year proceeds from the auction will go toward replacing the
rear wall of the school, new front doors, and trim on the exterior
of the building.
The
annual auction is the school’s largest fundraiser. Thank you to the
local businesses who graciously donated to our non-profit
organization. We are hoping this year will be our biggest yet!
