The
Northwood Democrats will be hosting Sherry Godlewski from NHDES at
their July 23rd meeting. The topic will be "A Changing Climate and
the Future of Lake Management." The impacts from a changing climate
are becoming more visible to each of us. This presentation will
provide an overview of climate science, land use patterns, and past
and future trends. We will explore how the combination of climate
change and land use patterns impact our economy and our natural
resources.
Any one
who has questions about our lakes and how the weird weather we have
been having will affect these vital resources is welcome to attend.
You don’t need to live in Northwood, or be a Democrat, this meeting
is open to the public as are all our presentations. We meet at the
Northwood Community Center, 135 Main Street in Northwood Narrows, at
6:30 pm, and the presentation will begin at 7:00 pm. There is no
cost.

Vacation
Bible School Great For Relief From Boredom!
Submitted By Shelley Frost
I
remember as a kid how my summers were brightened with Vacation Bible
School, where we played games and made crafts.
There
will be a lot of fun and excitement at the Kids Pray World Tour this
summer at Northwood Congregational Church. This active, three-day
vacation bible school is for everyone between ages 4 through 12
years old, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
July 24, 25 and 26th.
We’ll
have food for the families and activities, music, crafts and stories
just for the kids. Our stories will teach the importance of praying
for and thinking of others and praying for ourselves. All parents
and children are welcome to dinner. (and you’re welcome to bring
food to share)
To make sure we’ll have enough food and age-appropriate crafts,
etc., please register with us by requesting a downloadable form from
[email protected].
Each VBS
session will start in our fellowship hall, downstairs through the
door facing the high school, where kids will be signed in and supper
served.

Else
Cilley Chapter, NSDAR July News
Submitted By Regent Jan Gilman
Scout
Leader, Dan DeButts, demonstrates how to prepare flags for disposal
to members of Troop 167 and Pack 167 of Nottingham and Pack 80 of
Epsom during a Flag Retirement Ceremony hosted by the Else Cilley
chapter, NSDAR, of Nottingham during their June meeting.
The Else
Cilley Chapter, NSDAR, at its June meeting hosted local Boy Scouts
who conducted a Flag disposal ceremony under the direction of Scout
Leader Dan DeButts. Several scouts, leaders and parents from Troop
167 and Pack 167 of Nottingham and Pack 80 of Epsom conducted a
respectful disposal of over 100 well-served flags from surrounding
towns including Chichester, Deerfield, Exeter, Fremont, Newington,
Northwood, Nottingham and Rochester, to name a few! Guests were also
able to tour the Nottingham Square Schoolhouse upstairs classroom.
National Defense Chairman, Peg Franz, read from Foster’s Daily
Democrat about "Old Glory" in honor of Flag Day.
Following the ceremony, members went into the schoolhouse to resume
the business portion of the meeting. Regent Jan Gilman read the
President General’s message from the May/June supplement to American
Spirit Magazine. The May minutes, treasurer’s report, and
correspondence were reported. An Indian, Conservation, Constitution,
and Flag fact were read. Project Patriot Chairman, Lynne Sweet,
reminded members to bring items such as talc, wipes and creams to
send in support of our troops. Lynne also updated the members on the
work that has been done to the schoolhouse. Repairs to the
schoolhouse will continue which led to fundraising discussions.
The
Chapter will open the schoolhouse to the public on Thursday evening,
July 12th, in conjunction with the Nottingham Talent Show held at
Nottingham Square. The chapter will accept donations and hold a
50/50 raffle at that time. Informational packets will also be
available.
The July meeting will be on Thursday, July 19th beginning with
refreshments at 1:30 pm at the Nottingham Square Schoolhouse. Nevers
Band member, Deborah Lincoln, will be the guest speaker sharing a
presentation on Civil War Instruments. The public is welcome to
attend.
Women interested in joining the DAR are encouraged to attend a
meeting. The DAR is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s
service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving
American history and securing America’s future through education.
The public is always welcome to attend. For more information, visit
