Letter
To The Editor
I am dismayed that the letter to “Dear Northwood
Residents” concerning the NH Supreme Court decision on the firing of
the former Superintendent was ever penned. Sometimes, by their
actions, you get to really see the character of someone. This is one
of those times.
It is not my position to either defend or accuse
our former Superintendent except to say that I knew her as a very
competent Director of Special Education and as such would gladly
have her back.
As someone who was responsible for filling many
positions and promoting was part of that process, I understand that
over promoting someone is not beneficial. Putting someone into
a position that they might neither have the means or ability to
accomplish will quite often end in a disaster and the promoter is
equally if not more responsible for it. Just a thought.
What bothered me about the letter though is who is calling who what,
as in, is the kettle calling the pot black? The writer was the
School Board Chair for the last three years. If anyone out
there wants to see a financial disaster I invite you to look at the
2009 school audit report in the 2010 Town Report. If that is not bad
enough you should see the 2010 audit just out, it is no better. The
School Board overspent their school budget for the 2009/10 year by
over 200K and haven’t a clue where they are for the current year
that ends June 30th.
We are now officially a NH SCHOOL IN
NEED OF IMPROVEMENT in both math and reading. Our previous School
Board Chair left her position with the school in a financial
disaster, our children receiving a second rate at best education, a
defeated budget disaster, no teacher contract, no para contract and
she is throwing stones, GOOD GRIEF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summer
Reading At The Chesley Memorial Library!
Ah summer. Warm weather,
sun, vacation, and most important, summer reading! At the
library we are all working hard to get ready for this year’s summer
reading programs. Once again we are offering four different
programs- one for every age! We’ve got Novel Destinations for
adults, You Are Here for teens (grades 6+), One World, Many Stories
(grades 1-5), and the One World, Many Stories Summer Story Time for
pre-readers (K and under). With the exception of the One
World, Many Stories Summer Story Time, all programs will begin on
June 27 and end on August 11. The Summer Story Time will run
through the month of July.
Novel Destinations Even grown-ups
read over the summer, so why not join in on the fun? The
library’s flagship summer reading program for grown-ups will run
again this year, from June 27 to August 13, and is the easiest you
can imagine! Just register at the front desk and then every
time you visit the library fill out a raffle ticket for a gift
assortment. Get an extra raffle ticket for every Novel
Destination inspired book you read (travel books, multicultural
stories/memoirs, etc.)! Drawings will be held weekly and a new
gift assortment will be available every Monday. Everyone who
registers will receive a Book Buck, good for money off library
fines! We’ll celebrate a fantastic program with a multi-cultural
potluck at the end of the summer! Stay tuned for details.
You Are Here Check it out! We’ve got an online Summer
Reading Club (SRC) for teens (grades 6+)! Keep track of what
you’ve read, how long you’ve read and check out reading lists from
friends and your favorite librarian (Danielle)! Keep track of
how long you read to earn prizes for the library’s SRC. If you
choose to create an account with our online program you do NOT need
to fill out the paper forms for the SRC. Reading goals are the
same for both programs. You have to read for school anyway,
why not get some prizes (we’ve heard rumors of a fabulous reading
device!) while you’re at it? Every ten hours read earns you a
prize! As an added bonus, everyone who registers will receive
a Book Buck, good for money off library fines! Registration
begins on June 27, and the link to our online program (http://www.chesleylib.com/src.html)
will go live then! Special activities just for participants of
the SRC will be held every Monday at 5:00, beginning June 27.
Registration is online!
One World, Many Stories (grades 1-5)
Readers of all ages will travel the globe this summer as the Chesley
Memorial Library presents “One World, Many Stories” during their
summer reading program. We will explore different countries through
books, crafts, and more as we read our way around the globe.
The SRP is open to children going into first grade through fifth
grade. The program will run June 27 through August 11 and craft and
activity sessions will be held throughout the program. Each
child who registers will receive a SRP Game Board and move spaces as
they read over the summer. For every ten hours read they
receive a prize! Registration begins on June 27 and will
continue throughout the summer. Every Tuesday at 11:00
throughout the program we will be holding special craft sessions for
members of the One World, Many Stories program. Registration
begins one week before the event and is online at the library’s
website.
One World, Many Stories Summer Story Time (pre-readers)
Reading to your young child on a regular basis will help build the
reading skills needed once your child starts school. It will
help them to develop a life-long love of reading, which in turn
helps to develop the early literacy skills that will build the
foundation for a successful school career.
Join us at the library
as we share our love of books and reading with the One World, Many
Stories Summer Story Time (for children entering kindergarten or
younger)! This fun story time will be every Wednesday in July
from 11:00am to 11:30am. No registration is required!
We’ll be celebrating summer reading with a small celebration at the
last session on July 27.
