My answer to the letter of Lucy Edwards in the Suncook Sun dated
April 27th:
I am one of the seniors that you are mentioning in
your article and I feel that the democrats have forgotten about us.
They did things behind closed doors and did not allow the others
(Republicans) to have any input in the results. Therefore, a
very one sided slant to their decisions. You cannot take a
half trillion dollars out of a system that is broken and make it
better.
It is apparent that this current health care plan is not
helping seniors. Lower fees to doctors will only result in
their not taking Medicare patients. Due to the new health care
plan, even non-seniors see what is happening to their health care
insurance costs.
I think its time to thank the Congress for what
they are doing and not criticize them, also to stop the tax and
spend policies of the Democrats.
I believe that we really need a
balance of Republicans and Democrats to get the best results for all
of us.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day
Have you been spring
cleaning and come across items that you are unsure of how to dispose
of or know they cannot be accepted at the town transfer station? The
Household Hazardous Waste Day is designed to provide a safe way to
dispose of many products found in the house, garage, workshop, etc.
Collection Day is Saturday, May 7 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at the
Turnkey Landfill, Rochester Neck Road, Rochester. A product is
hazardous when its use or disposal poses a threat to your health or
the environment. Hazardous products may contain the words:
flammable, corrosive, explosive or toxic on the product label. This
includes but is not limited to: weed killers, poisons, insecticides,
drain cleaners, fuel additives, antifreeze, creosote, transmission
fluid, oil or enamel based paints, paint removers, glues, solvents,
etc. You are allowed to bring up to 10 gallons of allowed products
to the collection site.
This special collection day is for
residents of Northwood and other designated towns only. If you have
questions about Collection Day or would like directions to Turnkey
Landfill call the City of Rochester at 332-4096 or NHDES at
271-2047. An information sheet with all the details about collection
day, including a list of what should be disposed of and a map to the
site is available at the Northwood Town Hall during regular business
hours Monday-Friday 8-4.
Let’s do our part to keep these
products disposed of in a safe manner that will keep them out of
storm drains, septic systems or landfills that can contaminate
ground and surface waters.

To The Editor
I’m struggling, I admit it. We have a severe
problem in our school. We are not educating our kids. When our
Principal went over the NECAP tests at the School Board meeting last
night, frankly, I could have just cried. Math, neither grade, no
cell (division of that grade) passed. So now we are not only a SINI,
school in need of improvement, in reading but also in math. And how
many parents were there? Four.
On May 9th the School Board is
having a special meeting to discuss a committee to look into
withdrawing from the SAU. It’s a BIG DEAL, will you show up?
We
still do not have a line item budget for the 2011/2012 school year.
School Board Chair Ruth says their participation on the Northwood
Budget Committee is voluntary. RSA 30:15 says the Budget Committee
shall consist of one member of the School Board. Jean Samms of the
DRA says that if the RSA says “shall” that is the law. No SB member
was at the April quarterly BC meeting.
We go through principals
just about every two years. Want one reason Coe Brown is so good?
Headmaster Smith, over 30 years.
We went through a horrible
Annual School District meeting in March. We are firing teachers and paras with no line item budget direction. Our last audit was
horrible and we can’t even get the new one.
There is a common
thread here, anybody want to guess what it is, what the problem is?
