W Rugby:
Norwich Part Of USA Rugby U19 All-Star Event
Fort
Lauderdale, Fla. – – Five members of the Norwich Women’s Rugby Team
spent the weekend of Nov. 18-20 participating in the national
Under-19 All-Star championships. Sophomore prop Baylee Annis
(Saranac Lake, N.Y.) captained the Northeast regional side that took
second place in the six team tournament.
The
first match saw the Northeast wallop the South 33-0. Then the
Northeast outlasted last year’s championship team, the Mid-Atlantic
in a 12-0 victory. The championship, against the Midwest was a game
of two halves – the Midwest claiming the first 17-0 and the
Northeast fighting back nearly overcome the deficit, 22-14.
Giving
shining performances for the Northeast were sophomores Rose Bernheim
(Andrews AFB, Md.) and Joya Clark (Scotia, N.Y.). Both players have
become household names in the Northeast with their high octane and
league leading scoring performances over the past two years. They
continued to produce tries and lead an aggressive attack for the
All-star team. Joining the young scorers was freshman scrumhalf
Emily Orr (Unxbridge, Ontario) who kept the ball moving with her
quickness at the breakdown.
Captaining the Northeast side was Annis. Annis led the team to
victories on Saturday, before sitting out the final with a
short-term injury. Sophomore center Jackie Derocher (Northwood,
N.H.) was called upon to play flanker for the All-stars and she
completed her mission with grace and determination.
"I
couldn’t be more impressed with the way the Norwich players and the
Northeast as a whole conducted business this weekend," said NU head
coach Austin Hall. "They were short-sided and they played with so
much heart, coming very close to victory in the final. I don’t think
they lost the final match, I think they just ran out of time.
Northeast coaches Tiff Renaud and Tree Bartram did a phenomenal job
pulling this team together and really taking it to the opposition."
Coach
Hall was in Fort Lauderdale for the tournament in his role as
Backfield Coach for the US Development Team. The young National team
went 2-1 on the weekend, losing a 5-0 battle with the champions from
the Midwest.
Jack
Victoria #38 Roadrunner Mustang,
Northwood Native, Coe Brown
Graduate
Jack has
been racing for two years and won two championships.
In 2010,
Jack started racing at the Lee USA Raceway in the Ironman Division.
Being a rookie, he started in the back of the field each race. He
had seven wins to win the championship. In this division, when a
racer wins the championship, he cannot compete in the division
again.
In 2011,
Jack bought his Roadrunner Mustang to race at the Lee Speedway. In
the off season, the Lee Speedway decided to drop two divisions, the
Roadrunner and the late models. Star Speedway invited Jack to come
and race there.
Jack
entered this division, becoming a rookie again and starting most
races from the back. Drivers in this division had two to seven years
experience. Jack had six wins, seven second place finishes, four
third place finishes and only finishing out of the top three twice.
This enabled Jack to win his second championship.
In the
2012 season, Jack will step up again because he wants to.

Northwood Honored At Excellence In Annual Reports Awards
At Local
Government Center 70th Annual Conference
Local
officials and staff from cities and towns across the state gathered
at the Radisson Hotel Manchester on Thursday, November 17, for the
New Hampshire Local Government Center (LGC) 70th Annual Conference
Excellence in Annual Reports Awards celebration, which recognized
eighteen towns and three cities for production of exceptional annual
reports that are both informative and citizen-friendly publications.
"These cities and towns truly deserve sincere recognition for their
outstanding efforts in producing such impressive public documents
that inform their citizens of important financial information while
also conveying a sense of community spirit," said Sandal Keeffe,
deputy executive director and chief financial officer for the New
Hampshire Local Government Center.
Annual
reports from 151 cities and towns were submitted to the Excellence
in Annual Reports Awards contest. During the selection process,
reports are first reviewed for presentation of basic financial
information; reports passing this initial test move on to stage two,
where they are scored for creativity and reader appeal. Town reports
are judged in six categories based on population.
Northwood placed second in the towns with population of 3001-5000.
In the same category, first place award went to the Town of Enfield
and third place award went to the Town of Moultonborough.
Northwood’s annual report is created by Ms. Linda Smith who compiles
the reports of all town departments and personnel; and reports from
the Northwood School District. Northwood has historically included
the annual report of the school district with the town report,
providing local citizens with one document to access all annual
narrative and financial reports, election results, and general
information about the municipality and school district. The winning
report was dedicated to Leonard ("Skip") and Priscilla Anthony.
The LGC
70th Annual Conference Excellence in Annual Reports Awards luncheon
was sponsored by Citizens Bank.
