On September 26, Sunday evening at 6 p.m., there will be
a hymn sing held at the Northwood Advent Christian
Church in the Narrows on Route 107.
We
are inviting you to come fellowship with us and sing praises to God
through your favorite hymn. “…Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of
praise.” James 5:13.
See
you there. Sponsored by the Ladies Mission Group.
Celebrate “National Library Card Sign-Up Month” at the Chesley
Memorial Library with free replacement library cards until the end
of September. In addition, join us for refreshments sponsored by the
Friends of the Library during an open house on Saturday, September
25, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Watershed Lake Survey Successful
Northwood Lake Watershed Association President, Jim Vaillancourt and
Vice President, Kevin Ash, surveyed the lake with Mike Lennon
(Aquatic Control Technologies, ACT) and Amy Smagula (NH Department
of Environmental Services, DES) to assess the effectiveness of the
June treatment. The lake looks good and the change from last year is
huge. There is still milfoil, but not the heavy patches that were
there last year. The 2,4D treatment this year was effective with
little regrowth.
Our
own dive team, in learning to dive, cleaned up a cove off Baker Ave.
and the professional dive team we hired cleared most of the milfoil
from the Lake Site’s Cove that we couldn’t use 2,4D in.
Next year we need to treat Phragmites on the lake. Phragmites are an
exotic form of the common reed that crowds out native species. We
will ask for a permit from the state to dig out the roots. It will
take several work sessions to do this. The largest clump is by the
public boat ramp.
Good News! Native aquatic plants, Elodea, Pondweed, Bladderwort,
Tape Grass and Nitella are back in places that were filled with
milfoil last fall. The chemical treatment did not affect them.
Hard work and enthusiasm by Association members have made this a
very successful year.

In
running for Representative in Rockingham District 1 to regain my old
seat, I lost by 51 votes, but thank you to the many voters who voted
for me and will continue to keep track of legislation and testify
when necessary on those that affect the citizens tax bills and the
Right to Know.
I congratulate the winners and urge voters to
support the five who won.
May any who were elected always think
before voting, “how will this affect the citizens in my town and
county?”
The last four years we had state representative Maureen
Mann vote repeatedly to increase the property tax bills and the
costs to register your car or get a license to do business. Always
these costs get translated in your property taxes. If you can afford
it, then think of your constituents and neighbors who can’t and vote
for those who will watch our property tax bills and pocketbooks.

Letter
After over a decade of community involvement in Northwood, where I
live, and in the local region, I have responded to requests from
many of my friends and neighbors and am running for State
Representative from Rockingham District One, Candia, Deerfield,
Northwood and Nottingham, this year. I will be retiring from my
full-time job at the end of the year, and will have the time to
devote to serving the citizens of these four small towns whose
strengths and challenges I have come to know very well.
What I
bring to this campaign includes the experience of serving on the
Selectboard, the Planning Board, the Budget Committee and numerous
other committees for the town, reporting for The Forum, our local
on-line and print newspaper, being a volunteer board member for
BearPaw Regional Greenways, our local land trust, and joining with
others to form the Northwood Area Farmers Market Association.
I
also bring the quality of leadership, encouraging and helping others
to get involved in their communities. I share with them the rewards
of bringing people together to identify and achieve goals they have
set. And I bring vision, seeing where we can go together if we work
with each other with respect and compassion.
The next few years
may well be challenging for our towns and our state. We need
well-thought-out solutions, not slogans. We can move forward. You
can follow this campaign on my blog NO GOING BACK
[http://www.lenogoingback.blogspot.com/], and on Facebook, Lucy
Edwards for State Representative.
Please vote on Nov. 2. Your
vote counts, your involvement in your community counts, and you CAN
make a difference.
