Letter
Recently, Rep. Maureen Mann explained to the Budget Committee that
the legislature voted last year to make raises of steps permanent
for teachers, but does that law also make all public employees on a
step and track contract have permanent raises? This means without a
vote to give a contract the property taxpayers will pay the raises
no matter if they vote No on a contract for teachers.
If so, I
believe this is a violation of Article 28-a in the NH Constitution
which states no new mandates without furnishing the money.
This
will cost thousands to the towns and millions to a city like
Manchester, Dover, Laconia, Portsmouth, Nashua and maybe even the
State and county.
What other hidden costs have this Democratic
Governor and legislature passed to the property taxpayer in New
Hampshire???

Coe-Brown Announces The Winners Of The School Wide Contest For
Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest.
For Poetry Out
Loud Coe-Brown student winners are senior Christian Leavitt, School
Champion, and junior Jessica Goudreault, runner-up. Finalists
also competing included senior Michael Dodge, sophomore Samantha
Lepicier and freshman Henry Warburton. The school-wide finals were
held on January 20, 2010, at 7 p.m. in an evening framed by
two student-directed one act plays.
The competition, presented in
partnership with the N.H. State Council for the Arts, the National
Endowment for the Arts, and the Poetry Foundation, is part of a
national program that encourages high school students to learn about
great poetry through memorization, performance, and competition.
These finalists in the school competition were chosen from among
classroom champions during late December and early January, in
participating English classes and the Public Speaking class.
Poetry Out Loud is a national arts education program that encourages
the study of great poetry by offering educational materials and a
dynamic recitation competition to high schools across the country.
Poetry Out Loud uses a pyramid structure. Beginning at the classroom
level, winners advance to a school-wide competition, then to
regional and state competition, and ultimately to the National
Finals in Washington, DC. Nearly 300,000 students across the country
took part in Poetry Out Loud in 2008-2009.
At Coe-Brown, students
recited works they selected from an anthology of more than 600
classic and contemporary poems. Judges evaluated student
performances on criteria including articulation, evidence of
understanding, level of difficulty, and accuracy. Teachers
introduced poetry recitation in the classroom using materials
created by the NEA and the Poetry Foundation, including a
standards-based teacher’s guide, a website, a ‘best performances’
DVD, and a CD featuring poetry recitations by well-known actors and
writers such as Anthony Hopkins and Rita Dove.
Christian Leavitt
will advance to the western N.H. regional contest on March 12, 2010,
at New England College, Great Room, Simon Center, at 7 p.m.
The winner of the regional finals advances to the state final at
Keene State College, Alumni Recital Hall, Redfern Art Center, March
20, 2010, at 1 p.m. Each champion at the state level will receive
$200 and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, DC, to compete for
the national championship, April 26-27, 2010. The school of the
state champion will receive $500 for the purchase of poetry books.

Jesus
Isn’t Coming! By Pastor Ted White
Okay, okay, so where is the
sign of His coming? Everything is continuing on as it always has.
Those who truly believe in Jesus’ coming back to this planet are
really out to lunch! This is just a fairy tale. What intelligent
person would really believe this?
But, in II Peter 3:3 we read
that “…scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil
desires.” Make no bones about it; those who mock are doing so in
order to follow their own desires which are evil. They “deliberately
forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth
was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world
of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present
heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the Day of
Judgment and destruction of ungodly men” (II Peter 3:5-7). People
can believe that Jesus isn’t coming, but by doing so they prove that
their own actions are evil. Truth is truth regardless if people want
to believe it or not.
So why hasn’t Jesus come back yet? It is
clear in this passage that He is being patient because He doesn’t
want people to perish in Hell, but to trust Him for eternal life (II
Peter 3:8-9). But, there is coming a time when the globe will really
heat up. It won’t be man made, it will be God made (II Peter 3:10)!
But, scoffers will continue to scoff. This is really no surprise.
But better to yield to what God says than to the mocking of men.
God’s word is very clear, wickedness by design seeks to suppress the
truth (Romans 1:18). Of course, when people do not want the truth to
be heard they seek to put it down by their ungodly arguments. People
can mock the truth all they want. That is their choice. Fortunately,
so far, people with differences, even those not popular with society
as a whole, can express them in this country. I am grateful for
that. There are many people I disagree with. I have the opportunity
to express that in this country…so far. But there are those who seek
to suppress those who don’t think like they do. When that happens in
a country a brainwashing takes place. People turn into drones
spouting the required belief system. Well, I will trust the Word of
God over every opinion of man. Jesus is coming back one day and it
will catch the majority of people off-guard (II Peter 3:1). Don’t be
one of those people caught off-guard when He comes or if you die
before He comes. You will appear before Him one day whether you
believe it or not.

any other possibly could. Go to

Lion
Dana Quinn Honored
Left to
right: Chris Quinn and Bill Lounsbury.
On
January 12, 2010, Saddleback Mountain Lions Club proudly honored the
memory of Dana Quinn with a Melvin Jones Fellowship.
Lion
President, Bill Lounsbury who presented the award remarked that Dana
was a hard working, dedicated Lion always ready to help with any
project and have fun doing it. When Dana died, the family requested
that memorial donations be sent to Saddleback Mountain Lions Club to
be utilized in some way that would benefit the community. At that
time, the club had submitted a grant application to the State of New
Hampshire to construct a “handicapped accessible trail” in Northwood
Meadows State Park. The memorial donations that we received totaled
$1,000 which gave us the “seed money,” so to speak, to start the
project. These monies were eventually returned to us through the
grant process and sent to Lions Clubs International Foundation
(LCIF) in Dana Quinn’s memory to be utilized for humanitarian
purposes worldwide. Most recently, LCIF sent $350,000 to Lions in
Haiti to provide emergency relief.
Thank you Dana Quinn for your
humanitarian efforts as a Lion. Accepting the fellowship for his
father was Christopher Quinn.
