Now that we’ve moved indoors for the final markets of the season,
the Northwood Farmers Market would like to thank the Masons for the
use of their hall, and to thank Linda Smith for our new winter hours
sign. They exemplify the community support that has sustained
this all-volunteer effort since our start-up three years ago.
There are three Saturday indoor markets still to come this fall
-- stop by the Masonic Hall/Northwood Theater this Saturday morning
and join your friends and neighbors in supporting our local farmers.

Northwood Residents Collect Gifts For The World’s Largest
Christmas Project
Christmas is arriving early in Northwood, as
T-Berries Antiques prepares to serve as a collection point for
Operation Christmas Child. Soon, with the help of local
volunteers, the site will be brimming with festively wrapped shoe
boxes full of gifts.
Through Operation Christmas Child,
the world’s largest Christmas project, Northwood residents are
helping send shoe box gifts this year to more than 8 million
children in 100 countries suffering from natural disaster, war,
terrorism, disease, famine and poverty. From Northwood, the
shoe box gifts will be sorted and sent using whatever means
necessary—sea containers, trucks, trains, airplanes, boats, camels,
even dog sleds—to reach suffering children around the world.
Operation Christmas Child uses tracking technology that allows
donors to “follow your box” to the destination country where it will
be hand-delivered to a child in need. To register shoe box
gifts and find out what country they are delivered to, use the EZ
Give donation form found at
www.samaritanspurse.org.

Child, a project of International Christian Relief and evangelism

Else
Cilley Chapter, NSDAR
Members of the Else Cilley Chapter, NSDAR
have had an active fall. Members participated in Nottingham
Day with a booth including a Patriotic coloring activity for
children, information about the Daughters of the American Revolution
and items for a fund raising raffle and for sale. The chapter
members also handed out dozens of flags to local children.
In
October, the members held their meeting at the Wild Orchard Guest
Farm in Deerfield with fall snacks provided by hostess Peg Franz.
The President General’s Message, The National Defense Message and
committee reports were all given. Following the meeting,
cordwainer Molly Grant invited us to her workshop and shared her
passion and the business of making shoes by hand. The process
and the various styles available fascinated the women.
Several
members attended the NHSODAR Fall Meeting in Concord, are working
with schools to have students participate in the American History
Essay contests on Paul Revere and Christopher Columbus, and working
with area high schools aiding in the selection of a Good Citizen
from their Senior Class. One of New Hampshire’s DAR Cilley
Chapter, NSDAR chapter works with the guidance depart ments at
Raymond High School, Coe-Brown Academy, and Oyster River High
School. Selected Good Citizens and their families will be
honored at the chapters annual Pot Luck Luncheon on Saturday,
November 13, 2010 at the Northwood Congregational Church.
Members are asked attend the business meeting beginning at 10:00 am
and to bring a main dish and a dessert or appetizer for the
luncheon.
This will be the last meeting of the season for the
Else Cilley Chapter; however, members work throughout the winter to
assist women interested in joining the DAR and planning programs for
next year. Those interested are encouraged to visit our
website at
