“Edutainment” With Randy Judkins

Don’t miss this unique opportunity - Randy Judkins will present his entertaining and educational motivational workshop at Coe-Brown Northwood Academy on Thursday, September 24 at 6:30 p.m. in Gerrish Gym (main building).  He will be talking to all 8th graders from SAU#44 plus Barrington, as well as 9th graders at CBNA during the school day and will return in the evening at 6:30 for parents to see his unique approach to fostering self esteem and healthy decision making in young people.  Parents of all children in Northwood, Nottingham, Strafford and Barrington are strongly encouraged to come hear this nationally recognized speaker. Randy is a unique motivational speaker who offers original, interactive presentations that engage his audience and promote thoughtful insight for us all. He has instructed for Barnum & Bailey’s Clown College. He has served as a character consultant for Tri-Star Pictures, and has appeared on CBS and ABC television. Check him out at www.randyjudkins.com.

This event is the first in a series sponsored by the SYNC coalition (Supporting Youth N’ Communities), a multi-community coalition comprised of school and community leaders, law enforcement, parents and students. Our goal is to build positive community relationships and reduce risky behavior in young people by building an effective support system, and advancing our mission with speaker events and informational meetings.  We are always looking for more members to help us help the youth in our communities.

Door prizes will be awarded throughout the evening! Join us for an evening of fun and ‘Edutainment’ with Randy Judkins!

Northwood Emergency Food Pantry

Northwood Emergency Food Pantry has been awarded a $500 grant provided by the Techfabrik Fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation.  This grant was made possible through the efforts of the Northwood Congregational Church. The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation has been improving the quality of  life in our communities since 1962.

The Food Pantry is pleased to accept this grant which will help supply food for families and individuals in our community. Formed in the early 1980’s, the pantry has been able to continue to provide this service due to the generous support of many individuals and organizations.  It has been the hope of the Pantry that no child or adult in the community would be without needed food or basic health supplies. All donations, of any size, are greatly appreciated. If you would like to donate food or make a monetary contribution, please contact Food Pantry Coordinator Pat Jacobsmeyer at 942-8912.

Northwood School Open House

In addition to visiting classrooms and meeting teachers, this year’s open house will be one of the community’s first opportunities to meet our new Principal, Rich Hartford, and Assistant Principal, Lisa Labella.

Please join the Northwood School Board at 6:00 in the school gym for a brief presentation followed by classroom visits and the PTA’s Annual Ice Cream Social. We look forward to introducing parents, students, and community members to our new administrators!

Else Cilley Chapter, Daughters Of The American Revolution

September 17th to 23rd is Constitution Week. This commemorates the signing of the Constitution by twelve states in 1787.

Which state of the original thirteen was not represented? Rhode Island.

Nowhere in the Constitution does it say “It’s a Free Country.” However, in the First Amendment, it does limit the freedom of speech/press/assembly for defamation, perjury, treason and various other things.

The only reference to God is where the date is written “Seventeenth Day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven.”

The U.S. Constitution is the oldest Constitution still in active use in the world today and is the basic document of our republic, which protects the individual liberties of all citizens through written law.

“We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

These words are the preamble to our constitution, written over 200 years ago.

There are 7 Articles. Article 1 establishes congress, which consists of the Senate and House of Representatives as the Legislature.

Article 2 gives the Executive power to the President and Vice President.

Article 3 is the Judicial power of the United States establishing the Supreme Court and other lower courts.

The first ten amendments are called the Bill of Rights and were ratified effective December 15, 1791.

There are now 27 Amendments to the Constitution.
