Family Fun Activity Night

The Northwood Wellness Committee, along with the Northwood School PTA, is holding a Family Fun Activity Night for parents and children (Grades K-5) on Thursday, February 12 from 6:30-8:00 in the Northwood School gym.  NHPTV brings this program to you, to show parents and children how they can play together to build a healthier more active life.  Activities will be set up around the gym, and families can rotate to as many as they want. So stop by and learn ways to get active and have fun with your children.

Please remember that parents must attend with their children, and cleaned bottomed sneakers must be worn in the gym. Children will need to bring their gym sneakers home from school on this day. This is a great program; you won’t want to miss it.

Also, mark your calendar for Family Fun Yoga on March 13.  More information to come.

During the month of November, Cadette Troop 12411 chose to collect dog/cat food as their service project. On December 30th, we were finally able to deliver our donations to the Stratham SPCA. The SPCA was very grateful for the donations and graciously provided the girls with a “behind the scenes” tour. The girls learned about the services provided by the volunteers at the SPCA, where the animals come from, and how the community can become involved. Many thanks to Paula Parisi and all the volunteers at the SPCA!

Foundation For Christmas (part 4)

by Pastor Ted White
Christmas— the law of the Old Testament leads us to the Christ of Christmas. The teaching of the Substitute began in Genesis 3 when God provided skins from an innocent animal substitute to clothe Adam and Eve according to His plan, not theirs.

All through the Old Testament is this theme of the substitute. Look at Passover in Exodus chapter 12. The last of the 10 plagues would be the death of the 1st born in all the land of Egypt, except for those who obeyed and took the blood of a lamb (a substitute) and put it on the lintel and the two doorposts where they would eat the lamb. If they obeyed the Lord, He would see the blood of the substitute and judgment would pass over that dwelling. All homes that did not have the blood applied would experience the death of the first-born, even in Pharaoh’s own household. God was to show His power in judgment and salvation. Again, this was also pointing to a future event as well.
In Exodus 13:10 we see that the Israelites were to keep the Passover year after year as a memorial of what the Lord did for them in Egypt. So, for about 1400 years before the time of Christ, the Israelites were to keep the Passover. Think about the millions of lambs that died over that time frame. All these lambs were pictures of the substitute that was to come as well as a memorial of what God had done in Egypt.

In Isaiah 53 we read about the substitute that was to come. In verse 6 we are told He would take our sin on Himself. He would be our sin offering. In II Cor.5:21 we read that “He (God the Father) made Him (Jesus) to become sin for us all, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” Jesus was our Substitute and by trusting Him we are made right before God.

Christmas, the Lamb or Substitute of God was born to take our sin upon Himself that whosoever believes in Him should not be judged but have everlasting life. Have you believed and trusted Him?

Technology Students Busy At Northwood School!

Kindergarten students are learning to control the mouse through tools in the Paint tool box and color box.  This week we have practiced changing the background color (change the color of the eraser) and continued to change the foreground color (change color of the brush or pencil.)  We are compiling a list of tools that can use either the foreground color or background color. (Hint: Using the left mouse button to use foreground color or right mouse button to use background color)

Grade 1 students are learning about the keyboard.  They have practiced typing all letters and numbers; they have used the arrow keys to move around the screen.  They are using Paint tools and colors to improve their mouse skills.  And, they have practiced defining custom colors!

Grade 3 students have begun to learn keying. They are learning home row key locations; I’m amazed at how quickly they are learning to type!

Grade 6g students are completing the “Take your pet on vacation” project.  Students select a ‘pretend pet’ to send on vacation; use the internet to find images of these vacation locations; use Paint to perform photo editing (to insert the pet into the image); and create a Power Point presentation used to show  classmates a slide show of the pet’s vacation.  They are creating wonderful slide shows!

Grade 7 students have been working on spreadsheets. They have learned the mechanics of spreadsheets as well as practiced using spreadsheets to project budget spending (in the Aquarium project).  Now students are beginning the final spreadsheet project: planning an imaginary party.  Each student has a budget, uses a restaurant menu to select food for the party, and orders party favors from a catalogue.  Students need to stay within budget and supply enough food for the number of invitees. It’s a fun project.
