National Library Week April 12-18

Submitted By Donna Bunker

Unlimited possibilities @ your library: celebrate National Library Week April 12-18

This week, the Chesley Memorial Library joins libraries in schools, campuses and communities nationwide in celebrating National Library Week, a time to highlight the changing role of libraries, librarians and library workers.

Libraries today are more than warehouses for books. Instead, libraries and librarians are change agents within their communities – transforming lives through innovative educational resources and forward-thinking programming. Libraries are doing their part to close the digital divide and level the playing field by providing free access to information and technologies that many in their communities would be hard pressed to find elsewhere.  Libraries help to ensure the American dream and promote democracy by providing service to all regardless of race, ethnicity, creed, age, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity or socio-economic status.

The Chesley Memorial Library will celebrate National Library Week with a variety of activities to choose from. There will be a Poetry Party on Tuesday the 14th from 6:00-7:00 pm, a Writer’s Night Out in Nottingham on Wednesday the 15th at 6:30 pm, and an Author Visit with Patrice Kilham on Saturday the 18th from 10:30am-12:00 pm. Free replacement library cards will also be offered so stop by if you need one.

Meet teen author Angela Ross at the Chesley Memorial Library on Saturday, April 11, from 10:30am-12:30 p.m.

Former Coe-Brown Northwood Academy student Angela is already the author of two books.  Both books will be available to purchase: “Shrea: A Journey of the Soul” and “Half-Blood Crest.”Angela has three things she can’t live without. The 17 year-old is never far from her laptop, which has her works in progress, as well as seeds for dozens of stories just waiting for her undivided attention. She also uses it to access the latest chapters of the animé and manga that she loves. It also holds her second necessity, her favorite music. She enjoys singing and composing, and enjoys all types of music, especially Japanese pop and vocaloids.  Third, and by no means least, Angela adores her extremely large cat, Chamé.  He graciously shares his home in Center Barnstead with Angela and her family.

For more information, visit the Chesley Memorial Library at 8 Mountain Avenue, call 942-5472, or see the library’s web site at www.chesleylib.com.
