Chichester Grange held its annual Awards Night on Wednesday, May
2nd. Forty-five people were present to honor members of the
Chichester and Pittsfield communities who serve others in their
respective occupations.
Elijah McTigue received the Outstanding Youth Award. A student
at Pembroke Academy, Eli is an excellent scholar, musician, and
actor. He is also active in his church, providing music for
worship services and participating in Youth Group outreach
activities.
The Educator of the Year Award went to Derek Hamilton of
Pittsfield Middle-High School. Mr. Hamilton teaches Social
Studies, coaches soccer and basketball, and serves with various
student and faculty groups.
David Sweet from the Pittsfield Post Office was given the Postal
Worker Award. Many members of his family and folks from the Post
Office were present to support him.
Police Officer Jeffrey Miller received an award for his service
with the Chichester Police Department. He brings a wealth of
experience from police work and the National Guard to
Chichester.
Walter Sanborn was given a Lifetime Achievement Award for being
a vital part of the Chichester Volunteer Fire Department during
its entire 75 years of existence. In those 75 years he has seen
many changes in fire department equipment and responsibilities
and has been part of it all.
Jon Harkness and Carol Frekey-Harkness were honored as Community
Citizens. Between them they form an integral part of the
Chichester Cub Scouts, PTO, Old Home Day Committee, and small
business world. As the supportive parents of two children, they
exhibit the kind of family values that Chichester Grange is
proud to recognize.
In addition to the Community Awards, long term membership
recognition was given to two members of Chichester Grange.
Evelyn Pike received her Golden Sheaf booklet for fifty years of
Grange membership, and Ina Hilliard received a fifty-five year
membership seal.
