Pittsfield’s Libraries
On Thursday evening, April 8 at 7:00 in Pittsfield Historical Society
Headquarters on Elm Street, Leslie Vogt will present a history of
Pittsfield’s libraries. Leslie will explain why Josiah Carpenter, a
resident of Chichester, decided to donate a fully furnished library to
the Town of Pittsfield. You’ll hear about the controversy that rocked
the library before the doors of this “new” building even opened. Care to
guess what the trustees in 1936 noted as being the single most important
development in the library since its founding in 1895? Join us Thursday
and you’ll hear the answer.
