On Saturday April 26, 10:00 am - 11:00 am, gubernatorial candidate,
Andrew Hemingway will be attending a “Meet and Greet” at Gilman
Library in Alton. “I look forward to hosting this event for Andrew.
He is an energetic, small government candidate who solidly supports
the NH and US Constitutions. I will be standing with Andrew in his
bid for Governor and I am sure he will be eager to meet the folks
here in the Belknap County area,” says Rep. Jane Cormier, District 8
Alton, Barnstead, and Gilmanton.

Obituaries
George F.A. McClary
George F.A. McClary of Province Road died March 2nd at his home
following a period of declining health. He was born in Gilmanton,
the son of Frank and Leona (Nutter) McClary. He worked for many
years as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic. He was part of
the crew who opened the interstate highway system in New Hampshire
working on both routes 89 and 93. He was also the
bulldozer operator hanging on the cable who bulldozed for Cannon
Mountain ski area. He retired from the state of New Hampshire
Department of Transportation.
He was a longtime member of Corinthian Lodge F&AM in Pittsfield and
a 32nd degree Mason. He was very active and served on the advisory
board for Pittsfield Assembly Order of Rainbow for girls. In 1976
he was honored with national recognition for service to this group
receiving the Grand Cross of Color. In his retirement years, he
became very active with grandchildren in Belknap County 4-H,
primarily the horse project. He worked tirelessly upgrading the
fairgrounds and the equestrian main show ring was named in his
honor. He supported the group however possible working on projects
or in the stands during horse shows. He knew every child’s name as
well as their horse’s name and every member of the Gilmanton
Gallopers called him Pop just as his own grandchildren had. He was
not one for publicity but his simple statement to the press when
interview, “If I can help keep one kid off the streets, it is all
worthwhile.”
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of WW II. Only in recent years had
he started talking of the events witness in the European theater.
He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service.
He was the husband for nearly 67 years of Lura (Bunker) McClary who
died in 2012. Members of his family include youngest daughter,
JoAnn Shattuck and husband Steve of Gilmanton and Jean Frost and
husband Maurice of Roseburg Oregon. Grandchildren include Amy
Shattuck of Troy, OH, Steve Shattuck and wife Meghan of Burlington
Ma, Daniel Frost and wife Heike of Anchorage, AK, Maurice Frost and
wife Angie of Riddle, OR and Cassandra Frost and partner Robert
Fisher of Jacksonville, OR. He enjoyed his great granddaughter
Keira,4 on her weekend visits from Massachusetts. Other great
grandchildren include Marissa Frost, OR and Billy Evans, LA. He
also is survived by one great great grandchild, Kayleigh Frost of
Riddle, OR. He was predeceased by both brothers in 2013, Harold
(Steve) and Frank (Joe)). His sister Marion Keith of Northfield
survives him.
Private services will be held at the NH Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen
April 25. In Lieu of flowers, donations in his memory and at his
