The State of New Hampshire Interlibrary Loan Program - Why
It Matters
Some may think access to information, books and even DVD’s is
limited to what we have available at the Gilmanton Year-Round
Library. We’re certainly proud of what we have. But,
did you know that through our connection with the NH State Library,
the residents in our small town actually have access to almost all
library materials in the entire state?
It isn’t possible for any one library to contain all the books its
patrons might want or need. By sharing resources, libraries who
participate in the State of New Hampshire’s interlibrary loan system
can offer their patrons much greater options in borrowing materials.
Here’s how it works. If you can’t find what you’re looking for when
you browse the stacks at the Gilmanton Year-Round Library, ask one
of the librarians to check to see if the item is part of the
collection. If it isn’t, you may request to borrow the book, movie,
music CD or audiobook as an “ILL”.
A few frequently asked questions:
How much does using this service cost? Nothing! It is
absolutely free for Gilmanton Year-Round Library patrons.
How long will it take for my book (movie, music CD, audiobook) to
come in? Items generally take one to two
weeks to arrive, depending on the location of the lending library.
A librarian will call you when your requested items arrive.
Simply pick them up at your earliest convenience.
How long can I keep the materials? It depends on the
rules of the lending library, but generally, three to four weeks.
Using this system can be a great cost cutting measure, not only for
individuals, but for home-schooling families and educators as well.
Last year alone the Gilmanton Year-Round Library lent over one
thousand items to participating libraries’ patrons and our patrons
requested AND RECEIVED nearly five hundred items in the same time
frame. We hope to count you too as a satisfied user of the
interlibrary loan system soon!
Cartoonist Herb Morse Is Artist In The Library For January
Cartoonist Herb Morse of Gilmanton
is Artist in the Library in January. A reception will be held at
the Gilmanton Year-Round Library on Saturday, January 18th, 1:30-3
pm. All are welcome to attend to meet the artist.
Herb Morse, cartoonist and Gilmanton resident, is Artist in the
Library at the Gilmanton Year-Round Library this month.
Herb came to Gilmanton as a young boy, and has been drawing cartoons
since he was six years old. His fascination with
cartoons began with the Sunday papers’ brightly colored cartoon
section and his collection of comic books.
Herb has exhibited at the Gilmanton Old Home Day and various area
art shows. His father, Howard, had a hobby of oil painting and,
with his mother Mary Morse, began the tradition of an art exhibit at
Old Home Day.
A reception will be held at the Library on Saturday
afternoon, January 18, 1:30 to 3 pm. Everyone is invited
to attend and meet the artist. The Library is on NH Route 140

Letter
Dear Gilmanton Residents,
A few notes from the November Selectman’s meeting. The Town changed
health care providers, with a savings of about $12,000 dollars. A
thank-you to Town Administrator, Arthur Capello, for researching
this.
The Selectmen discussed proposed warrant articles. Three articles
concerning the Highway garage are being brought forward. A new
ventilation system to improve the interior air quality, needed. An
article to replace some very worn snowplows and wings, and an
article for gas pump readers. Fuel is presently pumped and cannot be
accounted to the department that is using it. Each Department
estimates the amount of fuel it will need for the coming year and
that is how it is appropriated. We would like to get a better
accounting of this expenditure. An article for a new fire truck.
We will use funds from the capital reserve account for the down
payment and do a lease purchase agreement. Recommended by the
Selectmen.
During the fall a large amount of shingles were being brought to the
Recycling facility. The volume was forcing the manager to have them
dropped on the ground and loaded with the bobcat at a later time A
new policy is now in effect. The tipping fee for shingles is as of
Jan. 1, 2014 $100.00 per yard. You must be able to place the
shingles in the container without assistance.
Sincerely,
Don Guarino

I Heartily Endorse Joe Kenney for
NH Executive Council District 1
Having met Joe Kenney at a recent GOP event, I have to say he is the
man I will support in the upcoming primary special election for
Executive Council. Joe seems to understand NH values and the
importance of standing firm for small, accountable government. He
has a solidly conservative voting record while serving in the NH
legislature and I believe he will continue to vote and advise in a
likewise fashion if elected to the Executive Council.
My vote will be for Joe Kenney on January 21. Please join me in
supporting his candidacy.
Rep. Jane Cormier
Belknap District 8
