Letter
On behalf of the Gilmanton Year-Round Library, its board of
directors, staff and volunteers, I want to thank all the voters who
supported the Library at Town Meeting. It is reassuring to see that
each year support grows.
We will continue to offer quality service to all residents and
welcome new ideas as to how we can continue to serve the community
of Gilmanton. Again, thank you for your continued support.

Gilmanton School Is Proud To Welcome Artist Jeff Erwin,
The Creator Of Junk 2 Funk, As Our 2012 Artist In Residence
Erwin is a performing artist, musician, educator, and the founder of
Trashcan Lid Productions, an organization that combines music,
technology, environmental science, and performance art to produce
compelling multimedia performances by students playing instruments
made from recycled materials.
Jeff Erwin is recognized around the state and all of New England for
his work with young musicians at schools, camps, residencies, and
workshops. Under his direction, students learn percussion
techniques, music theory, and the basics of theatrical production.
They also get the chance to compose and perform their own music.
Jeff will be working with Gilmanton School students in all grades
from March 19 to March 30. A core group of sixth grade students will
design and perform a multimedia presentation at the end of the
residency on March 30. There will be an afternoon performance for
the school at 1:30 and an evening performance for families and the
public at 6:30.
The Artist in Residence program at Gilmanton School is made possible
by support from the NH State Council on the Arts, the National
Endowment for the Arts, the Gilmanton School District, and the
Gilmanton PTA.

Predictably, the Gilmanton Year Round Library Committee returned to
the town this year to request more tax money. Those who support the
Gilmanton Year Round Library have attempted to belittle those who
question the requests for funding from the taxpayers.
During this year’s town meeting, a young lady who supports the
library ranted she could not believe the stupidity of residents who
would question town funding for the library. She apparently has been
coached by the GYRL Committee. Sadly, friends of the GYRL resort to
name calling when their motives are questioned.
The issue for taxpayers is the GYRL Committee has used dishonest and
deceitful methods to receive welfare payments from the town. They
told us in 2010 the funds from the town were a "one-time payment."
Citizens within the town were called by the GYRL Committee and
instructed to "come and vote for funding for the GYRL and leave; you
do not have to attend the entire town meeting." They deceived the
taxpayers in 2010 and just like the last two years, citizens
received calls from the committee this year requesting them to come
and vote only for funding of the Gilmanton Year Round Library. There
are several libraries taxpayers equally support and fund.
Why does the GYRL committee behave this way toward the town? The
conduct of the GYRL Committee, and its supporters have succeeded in
dividing the town.
I heard two interesting comments concerning the GYRL. The first
comment was, "there’s a push for ‘Pay-as-you-Throw’ for town solid
waste, and there is a push for ‘Pay-as-you-Read’ for Gilmanton
students." The second quote equally sums it up. "The Friends of the
Gilmanton Year Round Library are not friendly at all." I couldn’t
have said it better myself.
