GCC Food Pantry And Thrift Shop News

Christmas is right around the corner, so we celebrate the season with 50% Off any item in the shop with a Red or Green barb. We still have a good selection of holiday fashions for the entire family.  Come in and check out all the wonderful clothing and accessories at the shop and save 50% on items with a Red or Green barb. We also have Gift Certificates available for sale.

We still have raffle tickets available for the beautiful quilt that was made and donated by Victoria Parkhill of Gilmanton Iron Works.  The tickets are available at the Thrift Shop or from one of our committee members. The drawing for the winner of the quilt will be on December 15th.  The tickets are $2.00 each or 3 tickets for $5.00. All monies raised from the sale of tickets goes directly to support the food pantry and its many programs.  So stop by before we close on Saturday at 2 pm to purchase a ticket or two.

We continue to collect non-perishable food items for the Christmas food baskets. Some suggested items for donation are: bottled juice, canned peas, canned corn, cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, canned fruit, canned turkey gravy, breakfast muffin mix, coffee, cocoa, pickles, olives, pineapple, canned fruit, pasta, spaghetti sauce, mayonnaise, tuna, canned pasta, brownie mix, cake mixes, frosting, mac and cheese, peanut butter and jelly.

If you would like to donate money to purchase perishable items for the baskets, please mail your check to GCC Food Pantry, PO Box 6, Gilmanton IW, NH 03837. If you have donations of food for the pantry, please bring it to the Food Pantry during business hours or you may leave it in one of our collection boxes. Boxes are located at the Gilmanton School, Academy Building and at the Year Round Library.

Our “Adopt a Child” program for Christmas is wrapping up, but we still have a few children left and we would be glad to extend the deadline. If you would like to adopt a child to purchase gifts for this holiday season you may do so by calling Jane Sisti at 364-7437, coming into the Thrift Shop, or calling Katie McEntee at the Gilmanton School at 364-5681.

The Gilmanton School PTA also has a “Giving Tree” again this year. This is part of the GCC Food Pantry “Adopt a Child” program but allows someone to purchase just 1 or 2 items for a child.  The “Giving Tree” is located in the entryway at the Gilmanton School.  We hope that you will be able to help us with one or more of these wonderful and meaningful programs at this time of year.

We are located on Route 140 in Gilmanton Iron Works, across from the Iron Works Market. We are open on Monday 1pm – 5pm, Wednesday 3pm – 7pm, and Saturday 10am – 2pm. Parking is located in the Gilmanton Community Church parking lot just west of the shop. The GCC Food Pantry and Thrift Shop will be Closed on Monday December 24th and 31st.

We thank you for your continued support of the Food Pantry and all of its programs. Remember that sales from the Thrift Shop go to support the Pantry.

Gilmanton’s Greatest Views - For Everyone, Forever! Goal In Sight!

Gilmanton Twigg_project_2July2011.jpg

Preservation of farmland is an essential part of the “Gilmanton’s Greatest Views” project. This field, on Frisky Hill, Route 107, in Gilmanton, produces hay every summer, while preserving the spectacular view for everyone to enjoy.

The countdown is on to complete the fundraising goal for the “Gilmanton’s Greatest Views” campaign. By December 31st, the Board of the Gilmanton Land Trust hopes to have raised the last $20,000 for the project to preserve the four special tracts in Gilmanton identified for permanent conservation.

To date, some 200 families, businesses, foundations and grant programs have contributed more than $1.1 million. Recently the campaign has been awarded  grants from the NH Land And Community Heritage Investment Program (LCHIP, $22,500), the NH Conservation License Plate Grant Program (Mooseplate, $30,000);  the Bank of New Hampshire ($10,000); and the Davis Conservation Foundation ($10,000).

Project manager, Tom Howe, commented on the recent surge to the finish line: “We’re thrilled to have such strong support from these well established funding and charitable programs. Funders see this project as a “winner,” and so the race is on to get across our finish line by the end of this month! Every gift really counts!”

Just $20,000 remains to be raised to complete the project and assure permanent protection and good stewardship of these lands.   Many recent donors have also made gifts in memory of loved ones. There are still “naming opportunities” to honor a special person or organization.

For more information and giving options, check the Gilmanton Land Trust website (www.gilmantonlandtrust.org).  Or send your check to the Gilmanton Land Trust at P.O. Box 561, Gilmanton, NH 03237.
