Special Homecoming Services are scheduled at the Living Word Assembly of God Church, 729 Stage Road, Gilmanton I.W. on Sunday, September 25th.  Rev. Sherman A. Stevens, founder and longtime pastor will be preaching at both the 10:30 am and the 6:30 pm services.  Bob and Betty Davis of Laconia will provide special music.

It is the prayer of both Pastor Stopyro and Pastor Stevens that those in the area and those who have had past association with Gilmanton Church will take advantage of the opportunity to fellowship with church and pastors.

The Gilmanton School’s 8th grade class has begun its fall fundraiser with the sale of Chrysanthemums locally grown by Murray Farms Greenhouse. The cost is just $10.00 for a 9” pot size flowering 18” across the top or 24” across the top in some varieties! Delivery will be on Saturday, September 24th in the Gilmanton School parking lot at 10:00 a.m. A limited number of plants will be available on a first come, first served basis. Thank You for Old Home Day Support

The members of the American Legion Auxiliary, Ellis-Geddes-Levitt Unit #102 of Gilmanton would like to thank all of the planners, workers and sponsors of the 2011 Old Home Day for providing such a wonderful community event.  Additionally, our great thanks go to all of those who stopped by the Auxiliary table and purchased some of our delicious home-baked goodies and took a chance on our raffle.  Joan Fellows won the Linen Basket, Lew Henry won the afghan and Melba LaRoche won the sack toss game.  Your generous support provides assistance to our local Veterans and their families.

Gilmanton Historical Society Brings Back “Your Hit Parade”

Do you remember the Hit Parade shows back in the “olden days”?  Or do you wonder what kind of music your parents (or grandparents) loved to listen to?  The Gilmanton Historical Society presents “Twenty Five Years of America’s Top Hits” at its final summer program on Tuesday evening, September 27th, at the Old Town Hall in Gilmanton Iron Works.

“Your Hit Parade” aired on radio, and then on television, from 1935 until 1959.  It set the standard for American popular music. Calvin Knickerbocker will outline a quarter century of the show’s history as a tastemaker, featuring songs inspired by the Great Depression, World War II, and on through the advent of rock and roll.

This is the final program in the Society’s 2011 summer series. Refreshments and social hour begins at 7 pm and the program starts promptly at 7:30. The public is welcome. There is no charge but donations are appreciated.

The program will be preceded by a brief annual meeting.  If you are interested in working with the Historical Society, as a board member or volunteer, contact President John Dickey at 267-6098.

The Gilmanton Historical Society offers a number of publications on the history of the Town.  They are available at all Society programs, at the Town Clerk’s Office, and at the Brick House in Gilmanton Corners.  The Society’s Museum, in the Academy Building, is open by appointment. Call curator Jeanine Moorhead 267-8870.  Thanks to George Carpenter for his work as assistant curator of the Historical Society’s museum. Pat Clarke will be taking George’s spot as curator. For more information about the Historical Society and the summer series, pick up a copy of the flier at the Academy or call President John Dickey at 267-6098.
