REMINDER

 

Lower Gilmanton First Baptist Church Christmas Service and Holiday Get Together December 10th at 6:00 pm.

 

Come enjoy warm cider, music, words of faith and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus! Bring a child’s present for Santa to give out, a dessert and a non-perishable food item to share to the church on Route 107, near Frisky Hill and Stage Rd., Gilmanton.

 


 

Santa Claus Is Coming To Gilmanton School!

 

The Gilmanton School PTA is hosting the 1st Annual Pancakes with Santa at Gilmanton School on Saturday, December 10th from 9:00 to 11:30 am. Come and enjoy pancakes, followed by a visit from a special guest! Bring your camera and pose for a picture with Santa for your special Christmas memory.

 

The cost is $5 per person or $20 for a family of 4 or more. Children aged 4 and under are free! Proceeds benefit the children of Gilmanton School through the Gilmanton School PTA. The Gilmanton School PTA is dedicated to funding field trips and other enrichment programs for the students of Gilmanton School.

 

The Gilmanton School PTA is also selling calendar raffle tickets. We have many wonderful prizes to be won, including VISA® gift cards! What’s even better is that you are automatically entered to win each day’s prize. Each ticket purchased could win that day’s prize every day of the month of January! Drawings will be held daily, and winners will be contacted on that day. Tickets may be purchased for $5 each or 5 for $20, so team up with your coworkers and loved ones to reduce your purchase price to just $4 per calendar raffle ticket.

 

To be eligible to win, all raffle tickets must be returned to the school, with payment, by 11:00 am on January 2nd. To purchase a calendar ticket, please visit the school or contact Lori Sanderson at 528-5735.

 


 

Holiday Cookie Extravaganza At Gilmanton Barn Library

Saturday, December 10, is the day to stock up on holiday cookies at the Gilmanton Year Round Library. Come to the library from 2:30 until 4 on Saturday afternoon and bring your children for a fun-filled afternoon. Children’s librarian Pam Jansury will offer creative activities, and Christmas music will accompany the event.

 

If you are a cookie maker, join the competition! Donate your favorites, along with the recipe, and let the judges decide who will be Gilmanton Cookie Master! Bring three dozen cookies to the Library on Friday afternoon, December 9, between 4 and 7. Volunteers will package them up, along with holiday gift baskets for sale.

 

Along with cookies for sale ($4 a dozen), gift baskets will be offered.

Gilmanton Junior Girl Scout Troop 11123 donated some items to help the food pantry with their Thanksgiving baskets for some of the less fortunate families this year.

 


 

New Hours At The Gilmanton Corner Library!

 

The Gilmanton Corner Library is proud to announce we will be open one more day during the week! Our new hours will be Mondays 3:00 - 5:00, Wednesdays 3:00-5:00, and Saturdays 10:00-12:00.

December Is Fine Amnesty Month At The Gilmanton Year-Round Library!

 

Throughout the month of December, the library will forgive your existing fines if you return your overdue materials and bring in a non-perishable food item, to be donated to the Gilmanton Community Church Food Pantry. This offer only applies to overdue fines. Lost item or replacement fees cannot be waived. Fines will continue to accrue during this period, but all current and past unpaid fines will be forgiven if you return all overdue library materials and bring in a food item by Friday, December 30.

 

The standard fine system will resume operation on Tuesday, January 3. If you are unsure of whether you have any fines on your account, stop by the library, call 364-2400, or e-mail the Librarian at [email protected]. And of course, we always welcome donations from any patron.

 

New DVDs Available

The Gilmanton Year-Round Library has 27 "new" DVDs available to patrons for the next two months. These DVDs are made available to us through a DVD sharing program run by Scrooge & Marley, a Lakes Region library cooperative of which we are a member.

 

Please stop by the circulation desk to see what is available – there is something for every member of the family, including The King’s Speech, Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and Ratatouille.

 


Obituaries


 

Arthur R. Brown

 

Arthur R. Brown, 87, of Gilmanton died Tuesday, November 29th following a period of declining health.

 

Mr. Brown was born in Concord May 29, 1924, the son of the late Arthur W. and Edith (Curtis) Brown. He was educated in Concord schools where he was captain of the 1941 football team and earned a scholarship to continue playing at Syracuse University.

 

Arthur proudly served his country during WWII as a Navy Destroyer in the South and Central Pacific Theatres. He was a combat veteran of 9 campaigns where he earned 9 major battle stars. He was a retired member of the American Motorcycle Association and The New Hampshire, New England and Eastern Collegiate Football Officials Associations, as well as the National Ski Patrol and Professional Ski Patrol Directors of NH.

 

He loved working at Weathervane Maples, his tree farm where he made maple syrup, and the enjoyment of riding his tractor was second only to that of riding his motorcycle.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 25 years, Annette "Nan" Brown; daughters Sally Brown of North Hampton, MA and Sue Sommer and her husband Jim of Concord, NH; step-son Dan Jones of Albany, NY; sister Marjorie Greenan of Lebanon, NH; granddaughters Jennifer Clarke of West Warwick, RI and Amanda Clarke of Gilmanton, NH; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Sandy Brown; his sister Marian Stewart and his brother Richard Brown.

 

A memorial gathering will take place from 12:00 to 4:00 pm on Wednesday, December 7th at The Moose Club at 170 North Main Street in Concord. A memorial service and presentation of military honors will begin at 12:30.

 

In lieu of flowers donations in Arthur’s memory may be made to the New Hampshire Veterans Home Benefit Fund at 139 Winter Street Tilton, NH 03276.
