Its mission is to provide socially and economically disadvantaged New Hampshire girls, ages 9-11, with the skills, courage and confidence they need to handle the challenges in their lives. Paula Ferenc, Program Director, will explain how this is accomplished by means of a Summer Camp Program and a Mentoring Program. Please come to hear how you can be of assistance in this worth-while program.

Exciting News From The Gilmanton Year-Round Library
Submitted By Alicha Kingsbury

The Gilmanton Year-Round Library was chosen for a grant from the Children’s Literacy Foundation. Through the generous support of CLiF, GYRL will receive more than 100 brand new children’s books. The grant also includes a school Storytelling presentation at Gilmanton School for the children! Thank you CLiF!

September 12th was the one year anniversary of the opening of the Gilmanton Year-Round Library.

Who would have predicted the amount of use seen so far? In the first year of the Year-Round Library’s operation over 900 cardholders borrowed over 8,000 books, magazines, DVD’s, and other circulating items. Participation in children’s programs exceeded all expectations. Other events and programs have drawn neighbors together and the Library has become an essential focus for Gilmanton community life.

Through the hard work and guidance of the first and current librarians, Gary Mason and Claudette Gill, the library’s operations and holdings have become established and an online catalog will be available soon. Jenny Stevens has been tremendously successful as Children’s Librarian Assistant.

The library has been used by community groups, book clubs, the Gilmanton Elementary School, and others. Several art exhibits have drawn considerable attention. Evening programs have offered a wide range of topics to enjoy and educate. Recently hours of operations were adjusted to provide additional use for our children after school.

You can check out current events and news by visiting our web site at www.gyrla.org or finding us on Facebook. You can reach the library at 603-364-2400.

The Library would like to thank each and every volunteer over the last year – without you the first year could not have been as successful. Thank you!
