They departed Vermont on June 16 and will arrive in Laramie, WY, on July 31 for a culminating event.

Cabot Cheese and other Vermont companies sponsored the six week-long event.

Summer Music Broadcast

Central New Hampshire residents are invited to share in some great summer music broadcasts every weekday from noon to 6 p.m., and weekends from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. The music is broadcast from central NH and is called "Family Entertainment Radio".

Music lovers can listen 24/7 at: www.superjukebox.net. The summer Music Special features songs not heard on the radio and includes music from Hawaii, Calypso, Oldies, Easy, Showtunes, Television, Polkas, Classic Country, Instrumentals and is the perfect soundtrack for family reunions, pool parties, cook-outs, employee parties or any occasion. "It's just like having your own Disc Jockey and family anywhere in the world can listen," commented Joe Laurendeau, the producer and director or the music broadcast.

Joe and Kristi Laurendeau of Gilmanton, NH, have been broadcasting music on the internet since June of 2006, and are celebrating their second year of music fun. Even their children get in on the fun with radio ads, promos, and production. Every Friday night at 6 p.m. and Saturday night their "Weekend Jukebox" features music not heard during the week, including Classic Rock, New Country, Disco, Rockin' Oldies and Comedy and encourages requests and dedications.

Requests are always welcome and listeners can design their own "music party" for birthdays, anniversaries or any occasion and the music broadcast can be broadcast four or more times. The music broadcast is funded by the Laurendeau family and listener contributions.

Gilmanton Selectmen's Corner

Submitted By Carolyn Baldwin

The following summary, compiled by Carolyn Baldwin, is drawn from the minutes of Gilmanton Selectmen's meetings of May 19 and June 2, 2008. (The selectmen meet on alternate Mondays during the summer. ) Complete copies of all minutes are available at the Selectmen's Office during their business hours and can be viewed on line at the Town's website: www.gilmantonnh.org

Special Town Meeting. The planning board has redrafted Article VII of the zoning ordinance in an attempt to correct problems created by an oversight in the draft adopted at the March Town Meeting. After a second public hearing, and much discussion, the selectmen voted, at a meeting on June 23, to go forward with a special town meeting on July 22, asking voters to approve the redrafted article. It will be a ballot vote. There will be no floor meeting, and this will be the only item on the ballot.

Town Wide Cleanup. Brenda McBride reported that the Town Wide Cleanup resulted in a total of 671 bags, along with a sofa, dehumidifier, air conditioner, bundle of siding and bag of insulation, 2 bicycles, 2 batteries, 12 tires, 2 beer stashes, 2 windows. 141 school children with accompanying adults plus an additional 70 townspeople participated. The town expects to receive 2 elm trees for its participation in the program.

Single Stream recycling. After discussion with Recycling facility manager Doug Kapplain and Stan Bean, chair of the recycling facility advisory committee, it was decided to cast the Town's vote against the proposed shift to single-stream recycling.

GYO Flag Pole dedication. The flagpole at GYO Park was dedicated on June 14th to Nick Cournoyer, a town serviceman who died in Iraq. It will be lighted.

Appointments to Boards and Committees. The selectmen are looking for volunteers to serve on various town committees and boards, including the Historic District Commission.

Old Town Hall Study Committee. Town Meeting voted to appoint a study committee to determine the feasibility of uses, especially police, for Old Town Hall in the Iron Works. Committee members include Israel Willard, Stan Bean, John Dickey and Don Guarino as selectmen's representative. Bat control continues to be a problem in the building.

The selectmen received 19 bids for a replacement septic system at Old Town Hall. Bids ranged from around $11,000 to $23,000. The selectmen accepted the bid from D.L. Docko for $11,900.

Town Offices. The selectmen reviewed recommendations following the annual sprinkler system inspection at the Academy. Costs for repairs and upgrades were several thousand dollars. George Roberts, of the Historic District Commission, suggested plantings around the site of the new vault.

The Gilmanton Community Church

Submitted By The Rev. Linda Bolton

We are deeply grateful for the donations we are receiving from our Gilmanton community for the Food Pantry. As everyone knows, the economy is in a state of turmoil and the Pantry is quite depleted every time we are open. We urgently need regular donations of food and/or money to continue to meet the needs of those in our town who are struggling! We invite you to leave food (please, nothing out of date) in the entry to the Iron Works Church or to send donations to the Gilmanton Community Church at Box 6, G.I.W., 03837. Thank you so much for your compassion and willingness to help! The Food Pantry will be open July 12, 26 and August 9, 23 from 10 to 12 a.m. at the Iron Works Church on Route 140. If you have an emergency need for food, please call Jane at 364-7437 or Sharon at 267-5934.

Our very famous Strawberry Shortcake Fair will be on July 4th at the Corner Church undercroft, immediately following the parade (10:30 - 12:30). Our strawberries are freshly picked - biscuits homemade and we use real whipped cream! We have run out for the last two years, so come early! We also will have an Attic Treasures Table, Jewelry, Books, home-baked items, Children's table and more! We look forward to the joy of meeting many old and new friends on this glorious day of the celebration of our Declaration of Independence!

Our great Chicken & Rib Barbecue will be on Saturday, July 12 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.! As many know, we are hosting a community (and beyond) dinner on the second Saturday of each month from January through October! With gas prices soaring it has been a great opportunity to provide a wonderful night out, delicious food and a place to gather with others right here in town! We have been blessed to have so many attend these evenings and celebrate the privilege of providing good food and hospitality to all who come! As you might know it is quite difficult to meet the expenses of our two sanctuaries with oil costs growing every day. These dinners provide our guests with the opportunity to help us so that we can continue to maintain our facilities which host many nonprofit meetings free of charge for scouting, 4-H and more. Thank you all!

During the summer months we are worshiping at the Corner Church which is next to the Academy on Route 107. Our services are at 9:30 a.m. and we continue to provide a time for children in worship with childcare following. Pastor Linda will be preaching on July 6, July 27, August 27 and 24. Pastor Bolster will be preaching on July 13, August 3 and August 31. Our Deacons and lay ministers will be leading worship on July 20 and August 10th. We invite you to gather with us for worship! You will feel the joy of the Lord and be blessed!

Our Vacation Bible Camp will be held from July 7 through the 11th. Presently we are in great need of adult and older teen (grades 7 and up) help! Please call Pam at 364-5568 or the church office at 364-7891. This is at our Iron Works Church from 8:45 to 12 noon. A joyful time for all who participate! For children ages 4 through finishing the 6th grade.
