Evergreen Lodge #53 and
Ivy Green Rebekah Lodge #36 are sponsoring another great Dinner Show
on Friday, Oct. 12 and Saturday, Oct. 13 at the American Legion
Hall. The dinner/show begins at 6 pm and includes appetizers,
beverages, turkey, roast beef, vegetables and homemade dessert.
The show is directed by Elizabeth Lent and features all local
talent! Tickets are $25.00 per person or a table of 6 for $125.00.

The movie matinee at the
Epsom Library on Wednesday, September 26 is “The Rider”. Based on a
true story, Brady Jandreau, a rising rodeo star, is seriously
injured in a tragic riding accident. Unable to continue on the
rodeo circuit, he returns home and tries to regain control of his
fate.
The Epsom Cub Scouts will
be holding a new recruitment night at Epsom Central School in the
multipurpose room on September 20 from 6-8 pm. Leaders will be on
hand that evening to register any new scouts and to answer any
questions families may have about our program. If you need more

To my constituents in
Allenstown, Epsom, and Pittsfield,
This week, the House met
on Governor Sununu’s vetoes. The House bills were quite minor: HB
143, allowing a parole violator to be remanded for less than 90 days
in some circumstances, was briefly explained by its supporters, and
the veto overridden, 255-89. HB 314, establishing a way for
driverless cars to be registered in the state and requiring them to
obey traffic laws, was also explained and overridden, 279-66. HB
1736, increasing the amount from the dam repair fund that can be
spent without governor and council approval, was also explained and
overridden, 266-79. The Senate overrode the veto on HB 143, but not
the others.
After a recess, we
received two of the vetoed Senate bills (SB 593, repealing the death
penalty, was not overridden in the Senate.) SB 365, biomass
subsidies, was debated at length as to the financial impact,
pollution effects, importance to the state, and the veto was
overridden, 226-113. SB 446, increasing the net metering limit to 5
MW, was also debated but the veto was sustained, 213-128.
My committee on constant
dollar amortization for the pension system met again, and learned
that the switch would cost $97 million in the first year, resulting
in a property tax increase of $ 0.25-0.66 in the state’s most
populous towns and cities (and probably about the same in smaller
ones.) Neither the governor’s staff, nor House or Senate Finance
chairs, had any support for funding that increase at the state
level, and none of the committee members would consider imposing it
on property taxpayers. Switching now would not pay off the liability
any faster, nor eliminate market risk, and the change to the
system’s funding status was minimal. So the committee moved to not
recommend a change at this time and adjourned.

Ingeborg Seaboyer Exhibit
At The Epsom Library: “From The Ground Up – A Forester’s View"
Ingeborg Seaboyer is a
lifelong resident of Derry, New Hampshire. Her art education
has stretched from Pinkerton Academy to the University of New
Hampshire to the Manchester Institute of Arts & Sciences (now the
New Hampshire Institute of Art) where she began to explore pen and
ink drawing in 1993. A forester with the State of New
Hampshire Division of Forests and Lands, her drawing has turned into
something of a second career. Her works draws on a lifetime in
fields and forests of New England; truly viewing those rural
landscapes from the ground up.
Ingeborg has illustrated
three books: Selecting Trees for Urban Landscape Ecosystems,
and Good Forestry in the Granite State 1st and 2nd Editions.
She provided most of the illustrations for Project Learning Tree’s
Focus on New Hampshire Forests. Additionally, she has completed
commissions for the New Hampshire Timberland Owners Association, the
New Hampshire Tree Farm Committee, the Granite State Division of the
Society of American Foresters and UNH Cooperative Extension.
She often combines watercolor and colored pencil with her pen and
ink techniques, as well as working solely in watercolor. She is a
founding member of the Derry Area Artists Collaborative and her work

collecting non-perishable food items for Epsom’s Food Pantry. It’s
the time of year when the food pantry gets ready for the holidays
but also for providing snacks for kids at Epsom Central who may not
have enough. So bring in those canned fruits, boxes of raisins and
granola bars too and Tim will deliver them for you! And speaking of
kids... Don’t know what to do with the kids? Bring ‘em! There will
be a Bouncy House and other kid-friendly stuff to do and see! For
the “big kids” there will be a Parts Swap Meet and take part in some
awesome Raffles! So make sure to check that out!

Faith! Fun! Fellowship!
Food!
On Sunday September 23rd,
New Rye Church will hold its “Rally Day” when we begin our Christian
Education efforts for the year. So come one, come all to join the
New Rue Sunday School. Kids of all ages welcome. So if your child
has been asking questions that are hard to answer, join us in our
quest to answer questions of faith – our journey begins at 289 New
Rye Road.at 10 a.m. on September 23rd.
Moreover, for the more
mature with questions of faith, on Sunday September 30th at 10 a.m.
New Rye Church will welcome a special guest to our pulpit: Marty
Pomeroy, head of the Boston chapter of “Reasons to Believe.” He will
speak on the “Intersection of Science and Faith.” In addition to his
prepared remarks, he will remain with us for the fellowship hour
after church to answer any questions that anyone may have. Please
bring any friends with an interest in this topic, especially any
nonbeliever friends!

Obituaries
Patricia Yeaton Crafts
PEMBROKE - Mrs. Patricia
Yeaton Crafts, 88, of Pembroke, died peacefully in the presence of
her loving family on September 8, 2018.
Patricia was the daughter
of the late George and Madeline (Brown) Yeaton. Born in Northwood
NH, she was raised on the family farm and educated in Epsom. She was
a graduate of Pembroke Academy Class of ‘48 and attended the
University of New Hampshire. Pat was a resident of Pembroke for 68
years.
Pat retired from the
Concord Hospital as the Director of Admissions. She was the
co-owner of Crafts Gas & Electric Company in Pembroke and later went
on to co-found The Den of Antiquity.
Pat was a trustee for the
Pembroke Library and a longtime Supervisor of the Checklist for the
town of Pembroke. She was a founding member of the Plausawa
Valley Country Club and was also one of the early organizers of the
Pembroke Old Home Day. She worshiped at both the Congregational
Church in Pembroke and New Rye Church in Epsom.
Pat enjoyed decorative
painting, quilting, golf, travel, high school sports, gardening,
cooking, and her walks. Her love of history, antiques (especially
tools!) developed into epic yearly yard sales. The love of music
inspired her to become involved in the restoration of the Concord
Auditorium.
She was predeceased by
her former husband, Mansfield “Junior” Crafts; her son, Jonathan;
and her siblings, June, Ted, and Syd.
She is survived by her
children: Deborah Stempel (Sylvester) of Waterbury Center, VT,
Cynthia Wilkinson (Thomas) of Concord and James Crafts (Pamela) of
Warren, VT; six grandchildren: Nathan Wilkinson, Kristin Wilkinson ,
Sara Wilkinson , Karli Stempel , Griffin Crafts and Samuel Crafts;
one great grandchild: Grayson Denningham, her siblings: Charles
Yeaton of Epsom, Phillip Yeaton of Concord, Calvin Yeaton of Epsom
and Nancy Claris of Epsom. She is also survived by many nieces
and nephews.
Calling Hours will be
held on Friday, September 21st from 3 to 6 P.M. in the Still Oaks
Funeral & Memorial Home 1217 Suncook Valley Highway in Epsom.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 22nd at 10
A.M. in the New Rye Congregational Church in Epsom. Burial
will follow in New Rye Cemetery in Epsom. In lieu of flowers,
donations in her memory may be sent to the Epsom Public Library
