Applications for Concord
Little League Summer Baseball are now being accepted for kids league
age 8 through 12 from Concord and surrounding communities.
Summer baseball is a fun and relaxing league with the expectations
that each player plays when they can for their team. Play begins the
second week of July and finishing the second week of August and
played at Concord fields. Teams will be comprised of approximately
15 players per team to cover for players who want to go on vacation,
camp, special nights, etc. Games are only played on weekday
evenings, no Fridays. The cost is $40.00 per player and each
player receives a team t-shirt and hat which they can keep. Forms
can be found under the “CLL Resource” page of our website at
www.concordnhlittleleague.org,
by emailing Gary Ford, Coordinator at
[email protected] and also
at the Grappone Park Concession Stand in Concord. Applications are
due on June 27th.
The movie matinee
scheduled at the Epsom Public Library on Wednesday, June 27at 1:30
is “Hostiles.” Christian Bale stars as a US Army Captain who
reluctantly agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief and his
family back to tribal lands. They encounter hostile Comanche and
vicious outliers along the way. This film is rated R for
strong violence.
“Why Do Animals Do That?”
Why do they throw up when they’re not sick or why do they gnaw on
wood if they don’t eat it? Those questions and more will be
answered when the Epsom Public Library hosts a representative from
The Squam Lakes Natural Science Center and some live animal
ambassadors. Please join us on Wednesday, June 27 at 7:00 PM.
Congratulations to
Andrew Goulet of Epsom who graduated May 13 from Saint Michael’s
College with a Bachelor of Science, cum laude in information
systems.

Presents Recent Work By Kathy Hanson
The library is pleased to announce its current exhibit,”
Recent Work: Deer Series,” by Deerfield artist, Kathy Hanson.
Well-known for her bright, often whimsical pottery, Kathy has
recently returned to her artistic roots to re-explore drawing and
painting alongside her ceramic work. Of this new exhibit, she
says: “The ink paintings and ceramic sculpture in this exhibit
represent a place where reality meets imagination, a significant
location that acts as a symbolic sanctuary for myself and for
woodland animals. As I walk the path into my woods, I come to
a small clearing that is overseen by a large boulder. It is a
quiet spot where I can sit and listen to the forest sounds. It
is also a place where there are often signs of deer having bedded
down for the night. They gather in the dusk and disappear with
daylight. I like to imagine the deer as the protective spirits
of this woodland place. Unseen, but ever watchful.”
This reflective and
interesting exhibit runs to July 31, and may be viewed during
regular library hours: Monday – Thursday, 10 am to 7 pm, and
Saturday, 9 am to 1 pm. For information, call the library at
736-9920 or visit www.epsomlibrary.com.
Letter
To my constituents in
Allenstown, Epsom, and Pittsfield,
This year, I was the
prime sponsor of two bills, and both passed. HB 1276, exempting some
raffles from needing a license, passed both the House and Senate on
voice votes, including a minor Senate amendment to make all raffle
licenses good for up to 10 raffles or one year. The exempted raffles
are the ones that everyone thinks don’t need a license now: tickets
sold at an event and drawn at that event, such as the 50/50 raffles
at the Pittsfield Players or Old Home Day or political rallies. I
also exempted these raffles from the need to have the sponsor’s
information printed on the tickets, which was still law despite the
rolls of raffle tickets sold every year in this state.
HB 1823, requiring the
retirement system to adopt layered amortization, has already been
signed by the governor. It’s a fairly minor technical change,
recommended by the decennial commission, that will smooth out the
repayment schedule in the future, without affecting the payment of
the current unfunded liability.
I co-sponsored 37 more
bills, with somewhat less success. Seventeen passed, seventeen
killed, two in interim study, and one (HB 298) that passed the House
and Senate in completely different version, and then died when they
couldn’t be reconciled. Of course, I didn’t work as hard on these
bills; in fact, except for the ones in my committee, I let the prime
sponsors do all the work.
Representative Klose
didn’t submit any bills this year. Representative Brewster submitted
30 bills, all killed except for HB 1243. This bill, which increased
the value of an automobile exempt from attachment in a court case
from $4,000 to $10,000, passed the House and went to interim study
in the Senate.
