Letter

To my constituents in Allenstown, Epsom, and Pittsfield,
This week, the House met briefly to agree - or not - with Senate amendments, and to set up more committees of conference. The last two bills from my committee, HB334, on exemptions from the new medical imaging license, and HB468, improving reciprocity for mental health practitioners, were agreed since the amendments were clarifying rather than substantive.

The budget is still being negotiated, but it has some excellent provisions I hope will become law: further business tax cuts, a work requirement for expanded Medicaid recipients, more funds for charter schools, and no new taxes or fees. The opposition to the budget is in two camps: most Democrats think it should spend more on various human services; some Republicans think it spends too much in general. I’ve been at various caucuses where spreadsheets battle over inflation, and spending, trying to convince us that the budget grows more/less than inflation, in whatever metric is considered an appropriate measure. I’m in between: I agree it meets minimum requirements for an acceptable budget, but would have preferred less spending. However, I don’t get to revise priorities, and so will vote for it.

My committee met this week to plan work on two retained bills. HB192, on rulemaking of the Department of Corrections, was discussed with a crowd of interested parties. We all agreed that the concerns that sparked this will be adequately addressed during the current Rulemaking and there was no further need for the bill. HB593, granting Group II status to various positions in corrections, was also discussed with stakeholders. We agreed that these positions, because they have job descriptions stating, they qualify for Group II, should be; but we didn’t like having to approve “administrators” as Group II. We then decided that the process needed to be fixed so that future positions with these job descriptions are in Group II without specific legislative action. We will meet again in August to consider suggested language to do this.

Epsom Food Pantry

Good Day. Well, we have had a busy few weeks what with food pick-ups, cleaning the pantry, and just general chores.

This week I had the opportunity to go on the USDA pick up with June and Armand, and I was so impressed with the folks at the warehouse. Very efficient and assisted by so many volunteers in the loading of our vehicle. Men and women stepping up to the plate to make this easier on us. A lot of awfully nice caring folks in the Concord area. Thank you from Epsom. And we do get a lot of very nice food from them.

Also do not forget the veggies for this summer. We look forward to them. And to all the nice folks who leave food at our doorstep, Thank you. One item we could use are some baked beans. We are out and they do go good with hot dogs.

Until next time,
Priscilla

Epsom Terry2016.jpg

CONGRATULATIONS to Terry Riel on receiving the Capitol Region Board of Realtors 2017 REALTOR® OF THE YEAR AWARD! Terry joined Century 21 Thompson Real Estate on October 2, 2008 and she has become a very valuable member of our sales team. We feel so lucky to have her in our family. The worth of a good agent is when your next customer is a repeat customer, because you did your job in a professional and efficient manner and they look for you the second time around, or they refer you to a relative, friend, or co-worker! Terry is involved in a number of organizations and she gives 100% to each of them. We are proud to have her as an agent in our office!
