On Friday, May 12, at 7
p.m., the library will present local historian and Civil War expert
Tim Patterson who will give a broad overview of the War Between the
States. Included will be a review of the 17 infantry, one
cavalry, and two artillery units that went to war from New
Hampshire. He will give special focus to the 11th NH infantry
and the men of company “E” which was made up largely of Epsom men.
Tim has the ability to bring the events alive to provide a special
perspective of our history. He has promised also to give an
account of the Battle of the Crater where the 11th NH infantry lost
most of their battle flag but none of their honor.”
Following his
presentation, Virginia Drew will give an overview of the treasure of
Civil War battle flags on display in our State House.

REMINDER Epsom Youth Athletic Association Upcoming Events
The
Epsom Youth Athletic Association will be holding their annual car
wash on Saturday, May 13th from 9AM to 1PM at the Epsom Fire
Station! They will also be selling hanging plants at the car
wash, just in time for Mothers Day!
Come join Epsom Youth
Athletic Association in a Cornhole Tournament which will be held on
Sunday May 21st on the fields behind Epsom Central School.
Registration will be 1:30 PM and the Tournament will start at 2 PM.

Don’t forget that the Epsom Library is
showing the movie On Golden Pond Wednesday, May 10 at 1:30PM.

Kutzen presents his program The Art of Remembering Names.
Specially designed learning exercises will be practiced in class and
then at home.
Movie Matinee is moving to Tuesday, May 16 at 1:30
for only this week. We’ll be showing “La La Land”.
The film follows six individuals as they share their triumphs and
failures while navigating their way through the growing pains of
life in LA. The film stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.
Congratulations to Jaime M. Hodgdon of Epsom who has been
selected for membership in Gamma Sigma Alpha, the national academic
Greek honor society, at St. Lawrence University.
Hodgdon is a
member of the Class of 2017 and is majoring in Biology and Business
in the Liberal Arts. Hodgdon attended Tilton School.
To be a
member in Gamma Sigma Alpha, students must be a member of a St.
Lawrence fraternity or sorority, be a current junior or senior and
have either a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher
or have a achieved a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher during their
junior or senior year.

SignWorks New England is
announcing it will Sponsor the SignWorks Legend Oval Series and the
Sign Works Bandolero Oval Series for the 2017 season.

Obituaries
Norman H. Gordon
EPSOM- Mr. Norman H. Gordon, 72, of Epsom, passed away peacefully on
April 20, 2017, in the care of the Concord Hospice House. He was
surrounded by his wife, family and dear friends.
Born at home in
Eastbrook, Maine, he was the son of the late Edgar and Avis (Dyer)
Gordon. He was raised and educated in Maine, and then moved to
New Hampshire in 1969, residing in Epsom with his wife for the past
18 years.
Norm studied the bible carefully, dedicated his life to
Jehovah God, and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses Sept.
12, 1976. He regularly read the bible and attended the Concord
Kingdom Hall.
Prior to his retirement, Norm was employed by the
State of New Hampshire; He worked out of Bear Brook State Park as a
stock clerk for over 20 years, making deliveries to many NH state
parks. He loved God’s beautiful creations, hiking, gardening,
antique cars and trucks and history. Norm always enjoyed
sharing amusing stories of his time in Maine. He and Sharon
enjoyed many trips to Maine and other places.
He was predeceased
by two brothers, Ronald and Billy (William) Gordon.
Norm is
survived by his wife of nearly 36 years, Sharon (Russell, Stone)
Gordon of Epsom; his stepson, Daniel Stone and his fiancé Linda
Curry of Montana; his siblings, Gilbert Gordon and Cheryl of NH,
Janice Gordon of ME, James Gordon of ME, Thom Gordon and Maureen of
NH, Jonathan Gordon and Birdie (Roberta Gordon) of ME, Kathy Ginn
and Mark of ME and David Gordon and Kathy of ME. Also survived
by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

would like to express thanks and appreciation to all the following
caregivers for the kind, compassionate care Norman received since
July, 2016: Concord Hospital Staff, Dr. N. Luther and staff, Epsom
Manor Nursing Home, CRVNA and the Hospice House, Dr. T. Sheldon, MD
and staff, and Dr. D. Weckstein, MD and staff.
Calling Hours and
a Memorial Reception for family and neighbors will be held on
Saturday, May 13th from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M. in the Still Oaks Funeral
& Memorial Home 1217 Suncook Valley Highway in Epsom. A
Memorial Talk will follow at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses
199 East Side Drive in Concord, NH at 3:30 P.M. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be sent to the East Concord Congregation of
