Get Fit NH Hosts A Day Of Winter Play For Helping Others
Local Gym Takes Their Workout Outside
The trainers and clients at Get Fit NH usually train inside in one
of their two warm, dry gyms. However, on Saturday, February 22, Get
Fit NH hosted an outdoor ‘Winter Wonderland” training session for
charity. The beneficiary of the session was Rise Again Outreach,
whose ministry is to provide compassionate assistance for struggling
neighborhoods by distributing donated clothing, non-perishable food
and personal care items to the homeless, refugees, the working poor
and others in need. They also provide English as a second language,
a raceway ministry and ‘Aftercare’ for those transforming their
lives after incarceration. Get Fit NH’s Winter Wonderland Workout,
which is held in addition to their regular 40 weekly training
sessions, is a favorite of their clients, said Nancy Carlson. “The
weekend’s warm weather was perfect for playing and working hard
too.” The fee for this training was a donation of a personal care
item, which was then delivered to the storeroom at Rise Again
Outreach.
Rise Again Outreach’s Chairman of the board, Bob Magan, said, “As a
client of Get Fit NH, I want to thank them for hosting the Winter
Wonderland Workout on Saturday. I know I had a great time working
out in the snow. I want to thank Dean and Nancy Carlson and the
other clients for their generous donations of supplies that we will
put on our vehicles to take out on the road to the 800-1000 people
we serve each month in Concord, Manchester, Laconia, Franklin and
Pittsfield. “
After the training, which left everyone feeling good in more ways
than one, Martha B. of Epsom summed up the day. “Thanks Get Fit NH
for organizing a day of play in the fresh snow. Can’t think of a
more “fitting” way to spend my morning!”

Letter
To my constituents in Allenstown, Epsom, and Pittsfield,
This week, the legislature met again to consider a long list of
bills. On Wednesday, we passed 38, killed 56, and decided to study 6
more, with as many more to do on Thursday. Of the passed bills, one
of the most significant was HB1360, which bans use of any handheld
electronic device while on the roads. Adjusting your GPS while at a
stop light, calling home when stuck in traffic, or any cell phone
use by a person under 18 would become a primary offense, so you
could be stopped for any of them. This was debated at length, with
most of the opposition pointing out that we have a perfectly good
distracted driving statute that isn’t enforced. Finally it passed,
192-133. Representative Dianne Schuett joined Dan and me in
opposition, while Sally Kelly missed the vote.
HB1533 requires an explicit search warrant for police to access data
in a portable electronic device, such as a cell phone or tablet.
This is an important protection for the many people who have all
their personal data in their phone, when they happen to be involved
with the police. This bill passed unanimously, as did HB1630, a
comprehensive update of the gambling laws. This didn’t add any
casinos, so it was not debated, but it did tighten regulations on
charitable gaming.
HB1248 clarifies that outdoor recreation is risky, and people
engaging in it cannot sue a landowner for any damage due to theses
inherent risks (bumps, stumps, trees, ice and snow, fences, et
cetera). This tries to make sure private land remains open to
recreation and landowners aren’t scared by the threat of lawsuits
from people they allow on their land.
Interested readers can email me for my newsletter, with more details
than fit here.
