Epsom Central School Staff And Faculty
Mrs. Karen Goulet, Instruction Facilitator
Karen writes and follows the progress of applications for federal
grants such as the Title I program. She monitors the Renaissance
Place programs such as Accelerated Reader and the associated
assessments Star Reading and Star Math, works with other faculty
members to insure students are receiving the support they need, and
coordinates literacy events such as the Family Reading Night, Read
across America, and meetings with parents. This year, Karen has been
working on the transition to the Common Core State Standards, on
which the new testing will be based. She is considering whether
changes and/or new resources are needed to help teachers teach these
standards, which offer renewed emphasis on the classics, traditional
literature, and poetry. Karen has a BS in Family and Consumer
Studies and an M.Ed. in reading, both from UNH. She enjoys being
part of the educational process for ECS students and sharing her
love for books through discussions about great works. Karen
particularly likes watching students “put it all together” and begin
to read fluently.
Karen feels fortunate to be part of the ECS community, a small
school which allows all teachers to know students in all grades as
they move up from Kindergarten to Grade 8. She finds the staff to be
extremely supportive and ready and willing to lend a hand is someone
is in need. Karen asks parents to visit ECS and see “all the
wonderful learning that takes place every day.” She welcomes the
opportunity to answer any questions that visitors might have.
Karen lives in Epsom with David, her husband of 22 years, their two
children, and two dogs. Their daughter is a Freshman at St. Lawrence
University, and they enjoy attending their son’s sporting and
musical events at Pembroke Academy. Karen enjoys camping, reading,
gardening, and hopes to brush up her long-lost piano skills and to
learn to play the harp.

There is not much I enjoy better than honest, informative, civil
debate. I went to the official Free State Project website for an
update. I quote:
“The Free State Project, a mass migration movement to
concentrate 20,000 liberty activists in New Hampshire...Today, the
Free State Project announced that 15,000 participants have now
signed up to move to New Hampshire for more liberty. This mass
migration movement aims to concentrate 20,000 liberty activists in
the Live Free or Die state... the organization anticipates it will
“Trigger the Move” in 2015...“Reaching 75% of our goal is a major
milestone,” said FSP president, Carla Gericke... Although not
required to do so until the 20,000 milestone is met, almost 1,500
participants have already moved, more are on the way. - See more at:
http://freestateproject.org/blogs/press-releases/free-state-project-hits-75-its-20000-goal-target-mass-migration-nh-2015#sthash.jsMjaRXc.dpuf”;.
A lot has happened since I last researched this subject in 2012. The
first question which came to my mind was: What does 20,000 signers
mean? Does that 20,000 include family members or might it be more
like 50,000 to 100,000 people? The website states many are home
schoolers. What services, tax credits might these activists want
from our school districts? I saw where “Free Staters”, already
living here, helped in providing Thanksgiving meals for the needy.
What happens to those families the other 364 days a year when there
are hundreds of applicants for every chain store job? Might I expect
these activists to be mostly “open carry”?
We have a lot to discuss in 2014. Meanwhile, I wish for you a happy,
healthy, prosperous New Year (and lots of good chocolate).
