Teaming Up To Help NH Kids Get Fit
Pembroke Academy And Get Fit NH Bootcamp Team Up To Make Fitness Fun
Focusing on NH kids health is more important than ever. According to
the 2007 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 14% of NH kids in 9th to 12th
grades are overweight, and an additional 12% are obese. This same
study showed that less than 50% of these same kids are getting the
minimum physical activity recommended. Local fitness specialist
Nancy Carlson from Get Fit NH and Pembroke Academy’s Health
Instructor Anne Bobotas-Grise devised a plan to show one of PA’s
health classes that moving and getting fit can be really fun. Anne’s
desire to teach her students about healthy lifestyle choices brought
her to seek out options for them physically. Anne’s "Wellness in
Motion" class recently visited Get Fit NH to experience their unique
blend of fun and fitness.
"The Pembroke seniors came to train at Get Fit NH on two different
dates to expose them to many of the different training tools and the
unique style of group personal training we use with our clients"
said Nancy Carlson, co-owner of the Epsom and Concord locations.
The seniors were not the only ones to take advantage of some
physical fitness fun. Several of the chaperones also joined in the
fitness training. Beth, who also teaches at PA, said she "really
enjoyed the creativity" of the program. Ann Bobotas-Grise, the
teacher of the Wellness in Motion class, said, "It was fun to have
the experience of both the private class in Epsom and larger group
class in Concord."
Over the past four years Get Fit NH’s primary focus has been serving
adult clients, which it does with 10 group personal training
sessions per day at the Epsom and Concord locations. Get Fit NH is
pleased to announce that they are expanding their offerings to serve
the youth market starting in 2012.
"Our clients have been asking us about training their kids from the
very start." Carlson said. "The new year is going to bring some
exciting news as we have recently affiliated ourselves with Athletic
Revolution and have started running youth fitness clinic. Stay
tuned."
