To my constituents in Allenstown, Epsom, And Pittsfield:
My study committee on the state building code and fire code, HB1631, met for the last time and agreed that new legislation will be required. We’ve identified enough issues that need clarification – how to deal with existing buildings, appeals, the fire marshal’s rule making authority – to be able to write a bill for next session. This won’t settle all the problems, but at least it will give us a starting point. I expect that the bill will be extensively worked in committee before passing.

The licensing committee also met to get more information about some professions that raised questions, from itinerant vendors to funeral directors to family mediators. We’re focusing on problems with the laws, or where the rules are out of sync with the statues, or where the regulation appears to be excessive or inappropriate. At our next meeting, we’ll start identifying the professions that will need legislation in the next session.

I’d like to invite any constituent who has any ideas for regulations or laws that need to be changed to meet with me at my home, on Thursday, September 2, from 3 to 6  p.m. After all, there are very many such laws and rules, and I’m only familiar with a few of them. I’d be glad to submit a bill to fix your concern.

Anyone interested in what’s going on at the State House is invited to email or call me; those who’d like a more detailed report than I can fit in The Sun should email me for my newsletter.

Let me know if you want a McGuire sign for your front lawn!

To the Citizens of Epsom,
It’s sure been a different summer. It’s been great for construction, you can dig anywhere without making mud. If you cut your lawn it turned brown (I haven’t cut my lawn since June), the garden has virtually no weeds and the potatoes didn’t have enough moisture to grow.

We’ve spent a lot of time on New Orchard Road and we’ll finish up mid-September. Thank you for your patience.

Did you know that all the original roads were laid out for a 4 rod width like East and West streets, Epsom, Chesley, Mountain, Range, Sanborn Hill, Black Hall (River Road) and many others? This was pretty much in all early towns.

We’ll start fall grading mid-September.

I’m very thankful for the summer we’ve had and pray for all heavy rains to go out to sea, an easy winter for all our budgets’ sakes.

Bless you all,
Gordon Ellis
Your Road Agent
