Epsom Healthcare Celebrates National Nursing Home Week
May 10th - 15th was National nursing home week and Epsom Healthcare Center
started off in high style by honoring Moms. A very special luncheon of prime
rib was prepared by our fabulous dietary team! Tables were adorned with
scented rose petals, candles were lit and each Mom was presented with an
individual carnation to make her feel extra special on her day!”
Monday began an activity packed week with a return to that age old comedy,
drama known as M*A*S*H. The lobby was created into a make shift army
station, a 1960’s Army ambulance was parked outdoors which was the extra
touch to add to the army flavor.
Activities ran the gamut from Radar style bingo, musical entertainment by
Hotlips Houlihan (Terri Collins) and Hawkeye Pierce (Scott Foley, AD) to a
wonderful hour long magic show performed by BJ Hunnicut (aka: BJ Hickman)
with mesmerizing tricks which captivated the audience of residents and
guests alike.
Epsom Healthcare center would like to send an extra special thank you to
“The Boys of Company C” Army/Navy Store in Chichester for your amazing
generosity to our elders by providing so many props to make this event extra
special....See ya Next Year!

Letter
To my constituents in Allenstown, Epsom, & Pittsfield:
This week in the State House, lead-off honors went to SB 5, which prohibits
New Hampshire retailers from sharing information with “foreign” states to
help them collect their sales taxes. It passed overwhelmingly. We also
passed SB 131, which gives veterans hiring preferences with the state; and
SB 173, which allows the commissioner of corrections to accept gifts without
waiting for approval of the governor and council. We killed SB 19, which
would grant legal immunity to towns or cities operating dog parks, since
several cities have successful dog parks without it.
More significantly, we narrowly (193-168) passed SB 33, which allows
lobbyists to sit on judicial committees. SB 195, which gives utilities
permission to trim your trees on your property if you do not object within
45 days of their sending you a letter, also passed, 238-133. The House
also concurred with Senate amendments on seven bills, most of the changes
being grammatical. One with some significance was HB 387, which required
that observers of voter registration had to be at least 5’ from the table.
Finally, we dealt with HB 73, which had the Governor’s requested language on
religious protections in case of gay marriage. This was very dramatic, with
some supporters of the original bills changing their mind and speaking
against agreeing with this language; nobody seemed pleased with it, no
matter how they felt about gay marriage. The House voted 186-188 not to
agree with the Senate language, and 207-168 to request a Committee of
Conference to work on the language. The next House session is June 3rd,
which is the soonest we can have any changes ready for the next vote.
Anyone interested in what is going on in the State House is invited to email
or call me.
