Chichester Town Library News

Tomorrow, September 6th at 7 p.m., the library is sponsoring “The Vietnam War: Diverse Perspectives,” with the help of the Humanities Council to Go program. With the recent death of the Honorable Senator John McCain, this program may be even more poignant now.  Not only is Senator McCain considered a war hero, he had an integral role in normalizing relations with Viet Nam.  The program includes a 28-minute video with stories from a journalist, an anti-war activist, an author and combat soldier, a South Vietnamese refugee, an ARVN officer and several US Marines, i.e., different perspectives. It will be facilitated by Suzanne Brown, who has experience working with veterans and the staff of veterans’ hospitals for several years.  Ms. Brown has recently retired from Dartmouth College after teaching there for over thirty-five years. Because of the anticipated interest, the program will be held at the Grange/Town Hall.

The themes for the September 8th Down Under Used Book Sale have been growing. They include grilling, since there is still time to enjoy a backyard barbeque, cooking and canning, as well as back-to-school.  August’s sale saw quite an interest in the collectibles and vintage books; therefore, the one-half price sale on these treasures is being extended for September.

The Farmers’ Market held in conjunction with this sale is always popular.  We continue to add vendors, but we hope to have even more before the sale.  Vendors are asked to contact the library to register.  Space is limited to 10X10 feet.  There is no rain date.

There is a new activity starting on Tuesday mornings throughout September at the library.  Come to enjoy “Coloring & Coffee” from 10:30-11:30 a.m.  Tea drinkers need not worry,  it will also be available, along with doughnuts.  Coloring sheets will be provided to participants.

The Memory Café meets Monday, September 10th at 2 p.m. at the Epsom Library.

Also on Monday, the Board of Trustees will be meeting at 4 p.m.

And, in the evening on Monday the 10th, the Down Cellar Poets will be meeting.

Evening Book Club is meeting on Wednesday, September 12th, at 7 p.m.
