Chichester Town Library News
The
Summer Reading Program has concluded, but to say that “Libraries
Rock” would be an understatement from the level of participation
throughout the program. Messy art, music with the “Songs of
Emigration” and the Ukeladies, turtles, theater and movies were all
well-attended. These programs were in addition to the 28
participants who had actually signed up to read throughout the
summer and subsequently receive prizes for their efforts. For
those who didn’t attend the finale, bring your completed contracts
to the library and receive your prizes! Thanks to all who came
and thanks to all who helped.
There is a new community-based program which has started at the
library on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and is expected to continue through
the summer. Those interested in yoga are invited to try this group
of physical, mental and spiritual practices/disciplines.
Sign-up is required, and participants should wear loose-fitting
clothing and bring their own yoga mat.
Lovers of the Chichester Library will be meeting on Monday, August
20th at 7 p.m.
Used
book sales continue to be popular, not only with the “regulars,” but
also with newcomers. Our thanks to all. Don’t forget
that the September 8th sale is reserved for a Farmers’ Market.
Vendors should contact the library to register. Produce,
homemade crafts, baked goods, syrup, candies, etc., are all things
that sell well at this event.
Old
Home Day is this weekend. The library will have books
available at the site and, in conjunction with the Grange, will be
providing the makings for s’mores for the kids.
Two
upcoming programs to mark on calendars include the ever-popular
Dudley Laufman who will play for and lead attendees in contra
dancing on Friday, August 24th at 7 p.m. at the Grange/Town Hall.
This program is sponsored by the library and the Humanities Council
to Go program.
The
second program is also sponsored with the help of the Humanities
Council to Go program and is entitled “The Vietnam War: Diverse
Perspectives.” This is the first of two programs sponsored by
Humanities To Go and includes a 28-minute video with stories from a
journalist, an anti-war activist, an author and combat soldier, a
South Vietnamese refugee, an ARVN officer and several US Marines.
It will be facilitated by Suzanne Brown, who has worked with
veterans and the staff of veterans’ hospitals for several years.
Ms. Brown has recently retired from Dartmouth College after teaching
there for over thirty-five years. The program will be held at
the library on Thursday, September 6th at 7 p.m.
