Congratulations to Kara Jarvis who graduated from Concord Christian Academy on June 9, 2018. She finished with an A average, which she maintained throughout her four years, as well as shining on the basketball court. Her family members are very proud of her and wish her success in whatever her future may hold.

Happy Birthday to Myles Davison on July 26.

Out Of Your Attic

Thrift Shop News

Submitted By Carol Hendee

There is a saying “If you see something, SAY something!”  That goes for the Attic- if you see someone dumping a load of stuff outside our shop after hours, please record their license plate number or any info we can give to the police.  We have had two loads of unusable items left outside. Magazines were soaked, dishes chipped, items not clean.  We do not have a washing machine. Clothes should be clean.  Help us keep this store open. We do not have the resources to deal with items that should have gone to the dump.

This week through July 28, a nice selection of infant/toddler toys will be $1.00 a bag. They will be on a shelf by themselves so they are easily identified.  The Household shelves (there are three) will also be 1/2 price. If an item is15¢, take 2 for 25¢ from these shelves (that includes flatware).  Saturday, weather permitting, our outside 25¢ and 50¢ clearance sale (you may find some Christmas items, who knows?).

345 Suncook Valley Hgwy, Chichester.  Mon. 8-12; Tues. & Thurs . 8-4; Wed. 11-4 & Sat. 10-4.  247-7191.  (WE do not carry large items-no furniture, no electronics).

Chichester Town Library News

There’s always something going on with the Summer Reading Program.  Tomorrow, Thursday the 26th, at 10:30 a.m., the library will continue rocking with the “School House Rock” show.  This longstanding television show taught a generation or two through music and illustrations about subjects as diverse as math to how a bill becomes a law.  There will be popcorn for attendees.  After the show, kids will play with a mosaic puzzle.

Next Wednesday, August 1st at 3 p.m., there will be a presentation of the classic “Treasure Island” by the Hampstead Stage Company, as part of the Summer Reading Program.  It is for both kids and adults and will be held at the Grange/Town Hall, 54 Main Street, followed by a “have it your way” ice cream sundae treat.

Mark your calendar for the August 4th Down Under Book Sale, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., with a focus on pets and animals, as well as the stories of people’s lives.  There will also be a special half-price sale on vintage and collectible books; and, a group of National Geographic magazines, some dated back to 1918, will be sold at $5/dozen.  It has been confirmed by many that our prices cannot be beat.

A heads up to those interested in our now annual farmers’ market: it is being planned to coincide with the September 8th book sale.  Interested vendors are asked to contact our Library Director, Caroline, at 798-5613 or [email protected].  There will be no fee to vendors, who must provide their own table and pop-up shelter, if desired.  Maximum space per vendor is 10’X10’.  There is no rain date planned.

Upcoming School Year Changes At Chichester Central School

There are many exciting changes and updates that will be taking place at Chichester Central School in the 2018-19 school year which will provide more detailed information about student growth and progress. Competency based education is a required system by NH state law in which students are held accountable for identified standards and skills and are assessed on their proficiency, or competency, of attainment of these skills.   The CCS staff have spent the last two years learning about competency based education practices and writing competency statements and performance indicators for each subject area and grade level.  The staff have also researched a variety of grading scales that other schools throughout NH have adopted.

A competency is a learning goal that students must reach.  Teachers can assess a student’s progress towards competency attainment through using performance indicators that deconstruct a competency into various skills.  As students attain proficiency on these  indicators, teachers will be able to report to students and parents a clearer picture of how students are progressing towards competency attainment.   For the upcoming 2018-19 school year, CCS teachers will be implementing a new set of grading standards that matches our mission and vision as a staff for our students as we prepare them for high school and to be college and career ready.

CCS will hold student and parent information nights at the beginning of the 2018-19 school year as we move to this new grading system.  More information will be shared this summer;  please follow this link now for more information about competency based education in SAU #53: http://bit.ly/SAUCompetencyJune18News

Also in the 2018-19 school year, CCS and SAU#53, including Pembroke Academy, will be moving to a new student information system called ALMA.  This will include student registration and student records being intergated with our new grading system which students, parents, and teachers will access.

Chichester Central School is very excited about the upcoming changes and improvements to our school. We look forward to working with our students, families, and community as we continue to grow and learn together.

Thank You From CCS

On behalf of the Chichester Central School staff, community and school district, I would like to extend a grateful show of appreciation to the Chichester Police Association for their dedication and effort in the past year for the safety and security of our students, staff, and families.  During this past 2017-18 school year, Chichester police officers have had an increased presence on school grounds during the school day and during after school activities.  The personal connections that these visits create between officers and our students will carry over to their future safety and security within our community.   Additionally, the Chichester Police Association recently donated to the school over $600 worth of mechanical security devices that can be installed at school and will immediately and directly help secure students and classrooms in the event of an intruder at school.

Thank you Chichester Police for your dedication to our safety and for your continued collaboration with our school!

Brian Beaverstock

Principal
