The Chichester
Heritage Commission will meet on Thursday, July 19, at 7 p.m. at the
Chichester Town Library. Heritage Commission meetings are open to
the public and all are welcome.
The Chichester Community
Design Charrette Team will meet on Monday, July 23, at 7 p.m.
at the Historical Society Museum on 49 Main Street. The Charrette
Team meets every 4th Monday and the public is always welcome to
attend any meeting.

$10.00 late fee per registration. After July 27 registrations will

For the crafters we have
some very nice articles of 100% wool clothing. They can be purchased
for $1.00 each. Keep as the jacket or skirt, or they can be used for
winter mittens, etc.
We also have some nice
patterns at 25˘ each! More tennis rackets came in and other
summer toys, like roller blades!

Chichester Town Library News
The Library Rocks (Summer
Reading Program) with the program “Wild About Turtles,” tomorrow
(Thursday, July 19th) at 10:30 a.m. Mary, the Turtle Lady, has
advised that this program is particularly appropriate for kids ages
3-10, and sign-ups have been requested.
On Monday, July 23rd at 7
p.m., the Lighthouse A Capella Voice Ensemble under the direction of
David Borchers will present a musical program at the Town Hall.
This group consists of eight, home-schooled young people, who will
be singing some familiar hymns and a few other light favorite songs
for the audience’s enjoyment.
Thursday, July 26th at
10:30 a.m., the library will continue rocking with the viewing of an
episode(s) of the “School House Rock” show. “School House
Rock” aired from January of 1973 through March of 2009, teaching
kids a variety of educational subjects with illustrations and music.
Each episode was fun learning for all. The library will have
free popcorn for attendees. After the show, kids will play
with a mosaic puzzle.

Monday, July 23rd, the
Down Cellar Writers will be meeting at 7 p.m. at the library.
A final thought to share:
At the past Down Under Used Book Sale, one customer joined a
conversation about the importance of libraries. She related
that, years before, a co-worker had asked her how all of her kids
were so successful (doctor, lawyer, educator, writer, reader, etc.).
She told that co-worker, and shared with those of us in the
conversation, that it was going to the library. She first read
to them, when they didn’t know how to read, yet. Then, she
took them to the library to look at books and listen to the stories.
Visits to the library continued, as those kids grew and read at
higher and higher levels. Thus, she said, their success is
attributed to visiting libraries and reading books. We thank
her for that wonderful testimony to the importance of libraries.
Frekey’s And The Chichester Town Library
It is always important to recognize community
leadership—something that is often not done. And, when a
person(s) and/or business continues to support something as vitally
important as a community library, they should be called out and
brought forward. That is what we are doing with Frekey’s.
Carol Frekey-Harkness and family have always been a proponent of the
Chichester Town Library. Every summer they can be counted on
to provide coupons for free ice cream to those participating in the
Library’s Summer Reading Program. And, the Library certainly
thanks them for that.
But, it has recently been
brought to our attention that they are also now participating in the
Little Free Library effort. There is a Little Free Library now
located at Frekey’s second location in Penacook. That little
library, like those at the Town Hall and Carpenter Park, was made by
the hands of many. Carol recently came to the Down Cellar Used
Book Sale to pick up a quantity of children’s books for her new
effort. These books will help stock that library, where kids
can take a book to read, whether it is to borrow or to keep.
Frekey’s continues to
succeed in Chichester, for which we are thankful. In addition,
the Library thanks Carol and family for their continued support,
both of the library and for reading. We also wish her well in
the second Frekey’s location in Penacook. Thanks!
