We could use your help
with a few things. We need a two-drawer file cabinet. Ours is
so done. We also could use some backs for pierced earrings. We
received nice donations, but the backs are missing. We have
had multiple requests for crock pots (tis the season!), sneakers
(men’s and women’s), and candles. We appreciate all the
wonderful donations we have been receiving.
This week, October 22

Chichester Town Library News
Progress continues on a
revamped children’s section in the main library. The committee
has been working on a plan for new shelving, drawers for picture
books, a rug, bright painting for the walls, etc. The large
print & bios have already been moved to the reading room to create
more space and two carts from downstairs have been moved up,
temporarily, to hold the abundance of books.
The library recently won
an award. Caroline, Library Director, received an e-mail
saying parents voted our library as a family favorite, kid friendly
library. The library was awarded a “Winnie” for this effort.
Thanks, Caroline, and all who made this happen. The library
will continue to strive to meet expectations in this area.
The “Little Book Houses”
will be taken down shortly for the winter months. This effort
continues to be successful, even as it is expanded to include
businesses.
The Library Policy Review
committee meets this afternoon, October 24th, at 4 p.m. This
is a public meeting and the input of the community is welcomed.
Preschool Story Hour
meets tomorrow at 10:45 a.m.
Our younger set will
again be enjoying the efforts of Caroline, Library Director, who is
promoting “Paw Patrol,” a series of books highlighting a group of
six rescue dogs, led by a tech-savvy boy named Ryder, working
together to protect the community. Among the members of the group
are firedog Marshall, police pup Chase, and fearless Skye. All of
the animals have special skills, gadgets and vehicles that help them
on their rescue missions. She is even planning a scavenger hunt for
the kids. Stay tuned for more.
Representatives of the
library will be at “Trunk or Treat” on Saturday, October 28th from
4:30-5:30 p.m. at Carpenter Park. This activity will be
followed by a Haunted Walk for children 10 and under, from 5:30-6
p.m., a movie at 6 and a Haunted Walk for the older kids from 6-8
p.m. Refreshments will be sold by the Police Explorers.
Thanks to all who make this happen. What a great community
activity!
Our neighbors to the
south, in Mexico, celebrate Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos).
This holiday is not Halloween, but is somewhat related, as it is a
remembrance of those who have passed on. It is celebrated on
November 2 with the festivities unfolding in an explosion of color
and life-affirming joy. For a bit of fun, the library will
have a celebration of the Day of the Dead, with the movie “Coco,”
sugar skull cookies which will be brightly decorated, cider and
treat bags. It will start at 6 p.m.
It’s never too late to
think about the next Down Under Used Book Sale, especially since
“new and almost new” books will be featured. These could be
great holiday gifts, so come early for the best choice (but not
until 8 a.m., please). The date for the sale is November 3rd.
Mark your calendar.
The Library Book Club,
which meets the second Wednesday of the month, will be reading books
of their own choosing for November to share on the 14th. Books
for December and January have already been selected: “The
Emperor’s Guest; Coming of Age Behind Barbed Wire During WWII in
Indonesia,” by Tita Bozuwato and “The Elegance of Hedgehog,” by
Muriel Barbery & Alison Anderson, respectively.

of New Hampshire.
This program is free and
open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. New Hampshire

Letter
Greetings fellow
Chichesterians,
I want to invite each of
you to meet an amazing and knowledgeable individual who is running
to represent us in the NH Senate (along with 3 of our House
candidates), next Tuesday evening.
I recently attended a
party with our Congresswoman, Annie Kuster (who shared her positive
bi partisan efforts on the part of NH opiate crisis!) and I met
Chris Roundy. I was pleasantly surprised by Chris’ depth of
personal and professional experience and his ideas for our state.
Those of us who attended from Chichester discussed how much we
wanted more of our neighbors to get to meet Chris along with our
excellent House candidates, Rep. Schuett, Doherty and Clint Hanson
prior to election day.
Dick and Gail Laker
Phelps are hosting a Meet & Greet with Senate Candidate Roundy along
with our 3 House Candidates next Tuesday evening, October 30th @
6:00 PM. PLEASE RSVP to me @
[email protected] and
I will send you additional details. It’s a wonderful
opportunity to have quality time listening and discussing ideas &
concerns with someone running for this very important office, rather
than just voting for a name on a ballot. See you at Gail and
Dick’s NEXT Tuesday!
