Chichester Town Library
News
“Upstairs Downstairs” was
a British television series of both the 1970’s and 2010-2012 and was
enjoyed by many. The Chichester Library has its own version of
“Upstairs Downstairs” with our layout, as well as our community
offerings. Many are familiar with the upstairs library, where
books, audio tapes and DVDs are available for perusing or check-out.
Upstairs also includes our reading room-- a comfortable area to sit,
relax and read--as well as a children’s area. Keep your eyes
open upstairs for some great new picture books that have been
ordered.
However, the downstairs
is almost as busy an area, as it has a community meeting room, used
by Chichester groups for a variety of purposes, and is a host area
for library programs. The other hidden gem of downstairs is
that it houses the “Down Cellar Used Books” area. The
selection of books is huge, and the costs are minimal.
Puzzles, DVDs, audio tapes and CDs are also included in this area.
Although book sales are held throughout three seasons of the year,
potential customers have access to the area whenever the library is
open and there are no conflicts with use.
Save the date of February
12th at 2 p.m. for the Chichester-Epsom-Pittsfield Libraries’ Memory
Café at the Epsom Public Library. The theme coincides with
Valentine’s Day, as the participants will have fun with playing some
trivia games and celebrating romance. Caregivers and folks
living with memory loss are invited to come and savor supportive
socialization.
Also, please note that
the library will be closed on February 19th for Presidents Day.
Red Cross Winter Blood
Shortage Reaches Critical Level
Severe Winter Weather,
Seasonal Flu Contribute To Spike In Canceled Donations
Ongoing severe winter
weather has more than doubled the number of canceled American Red
Cross blood drives and the resulting blood and platelet donation
shortfall since earlier this month. The Red Cross now considers the
situation critical and is reissuing an urgent call for blood and
platelet donors.
More than 550 blood
drives have been forced to cancel due to winter weather in January,
causing over 16,500 blood and platelet donations to go uncollected
through last week. In New Hampshire, 10 blood drives have been
forced to cancel due to winter weather this month, causing 307
donations to go uncollected. In addition, bitter cold and widespread
flu have contributed to very low turnout at many blood drives.
“Blood and platelet
donations are currently being distributed to hospitals faster than
they are coming in,” said Mary Brant, external communications
manager of the Northern New England Red Cross Blood Services Region.
“Donors are critically needed to restock the shelves for patients in
their community as well as areas where donors are unable to give due
to inclement weather.”
Every day, no matter the
weather, the Red Cross must collect more than 13,000 blood and
platelet donations to meet the needs of patients like Finnegan
“Finn” Olson. Last January, Finn was born with a rare heart
condition. He required multiple transfusions before, during and
after heart transplant surgery last summer. Transfusions had an
almost immediate effect on his personality and skin’s appearance.
“Each time Finn received
a transfusion, you could see him pink up right away and have
significantly more energy,” said his mother, Ali Olson. “We credit
blood donation with making Finn stronger and helping keep him alive
long enough to receive a new heart. Finn is living proof that blood
helps save lives.”
Make an appointment to
give blood or platelets by downloading the free Red Cross Blood
Donor App, visiting redcrossblood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS
(1-800-733-2767).

Letter
Dear Chichester
Residents,
This March will bring to
an end the one year term that I was elected to fill on the
Chichester Board of Selectman. I am asking for your vote on
March 13, 2018 for another term.
As a current member of
the Board, I feel that we work extremely well as a collective group.
The Board, along with our great group of Department Heads,
Administrative Staff, and various Town Boards and Committees, have
continued to move Chichester in a positive direction with both
infrastructure and a long term plan on spending and savings for the
future.
I am a lifelong
Chichester resident. I attended Chichester Central School, Pembroke
Academy, and Plymouth State University where I earned a BS in
Business Management. After finishing college I built my house
on Horse Corner Road to raise my own family. My wife and I own
and operate a family-owned business that is based in Rochester, NH,
that I am proud to say has been in business for over 53 years.
Prior to becoming a
Selectman, I was a member of the Advisory Budget Committee for 7
years, served on the Old Home Day Committee for 5 years, and have
had the opportunity to work with many of our towns’ organizations
and committees. Working with these various groups has allowed
me to meet and get to know many of these great volunteers throughout
our community.
As a continuing member of
the Board, I will work to get to know as many residents as possible,
listen to your ideas, attend events and meetings, and work together
to continue to make Chichester a great community to live in and be
proud of.
Thank-you for your
consideration, and your vote on March 13th.
Respectfully,
Edward Millette
