Flags are flying on
Historic Main Street! On Saturday, June 17, members of the
Chichester Police Association and the Chichester Firemen’s
Association attached 50 American flags to utility poles along our
scenic short cut. Funding for this project was provided by the
Associations with some help from the Chichester Heritage Commission.
Chichester Grange has no
formal meeting in the month of July. There will be an Eat-Out at
Makris Restaurant on July 19.
The final work date for
the stonewall at the Greenspace will be Saturday, July 1, from 6
a.m. on. Dan Schroth starts early. Many hands are needed. Lunch will

News
There will be a
basket-making class tonight at 6 p.m. If you’re interested, call

Down Cellar Poets are
expected to meet on Monday, July 3rd .
The sign-up for the
Summer Reading Program (SRP), “Make a Better World,” has already
begun. With special programs planned throughout the summer, ending
on August 25th, this is a great way to keep the kids engaged with
reading, learning and fun—all related to “Make a Better World.”
Each child will be given a booklet containing ideas for possible
ways to improve the world. They will be expected to do some of
them. Satisfactory completion of the SRP results in a free game at
Chuckster’s and an ice cream at Frekey’s--fun and delicious results
for a summer of fun. In addition, the following activities, for
which registration is required, have been planned:
July 12, 3:30 p.m.—Local
author and illustrator, Professor Cookie, will read her book, The
Lie. Kids will then explore developing and drawing a character of
their own. Older kids will learn how to create and develop a story
board. These activities will spur the imaginations and creativity
of the participants.
July 27th, at 10:30
a.m.—The Audubon Society will be at the library to teach us about
local birds. In addition, the kids will be making a seed ball to
take home and to feed the birds.
August 7th, at 7 p.m.—The
ever-popular Lego Derby is scheduled for the Grange. Our continued
thanks to Bob Shaw, who makes this happen.
August 12th, at 9:30
a.m.—Making sweet rolls—YUM—will be facilitated by the Teen Advisory
Group. This fun time will be held at the Chichester Safety Complex,
with the fruits (or rolls) of the kids’ efforts will be shared with
the Police and Fire Departments.
For those who
participate, or are interested in participating, in the activities
of the Memory Café, it will be meeting on July 10th, 2:30 p.m. at
the Northwood Lake Beach (54 Lake Shore Drive). People can either
go directly there or meet up at the Epsom Library at 2:15.
If it’s a rainy day, the Cafe will meet at the Chichester Town
Library.
Many Hands Make Light
Work
On Saturday June 3rd and
again on June 10th, Dan Schroth and brother Mark mentored a group of
volunteers in the art of stonework. With Nate Bronnenberg and his
piece of heavy equipment, stones were put in place. The wall defines
the roadside Greenspace located at the Grange/Town Hall and is
beautiful. Thank you Dan and Mark and all the community members who
were willing to move this part of the Greenspace Project nearer to
completion.
In a future article, ALL
volunteers will be recognized as well as those who donated food and
water.

Volunteers Needed To Keep
Community Trails In Good Condition
Chichester, NH – UNH
Cooperative Extension and the Town of Chichester Conservation
Commission will host a volunteer training from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
on Saturday, July 29, where members of the public are invited to
come learn how to maintain high-quality trails. This training is
perfect for conservation commissioners, local service clubs, land
trust volunteers, private landowners, trail users or anyone wanting
to keep community trails in good condition.
The workshop will begin
with a brief presentation at the Chichester Town Hall before moving
outside to Chichester’s Carpenter Park for hands-on experience on
the trail. “This is a fun opportunity to get outdoors and learn new
skills for maintaining trails that community members can enjoy,”
said UNH Cooperative Extension Stewardship Outreach Coordinator
Emily Lord.
Lord, who has formerly
worked for the Student Conservation Association, will lead the
workshop with Lewis Shelley of Snowhawk, LLC. Shelley has over
twenty-five years of experience in trail design, construction, and
training.
Participants can expect
to learn trail basics such as how to assess the condition of
existing trails and how to deal with water, slope, grades, and
recreational uses. You’ll get hands-on experience with specialty
tools and learn about options for borrowing tools for your volunteer
efforts. The workshop also covers safety and how to determine if
your trails project requires professional help.
Thanks to a generous
donor, this workshop, valued at $65, is offered to New Hampshire
volunteers at a special rate of $25. A bag lunch is included.

Obituaries
Beverly L. Cheney
Beverly L. Cheney, 89, of
Granny Howe Road, died June 21st at her home following a long
illness.
She was born in Concord,
the daughter of George and Margaret Dennerly. She was a graduate of
Concord High School. She worked as a telephone operator for N.E.Tel
& Tel for many years.
She was the widow of
Gordon Cheney, Sr., who died in 2011 and is survived by two sons,
Gordon Cheney, Jr. and wife Sharon of Chichester; Arthur Cheney and
wife Pat of Daytona Beach, FL; a daughter, Marjorie Anderson of
Daytona Beach; eight grandchildren, several great grandchildren and
a great great grandson; three brothers, Dwayne Dennerly, Dana
Dennerly, and Rev. Charles Arsenault, and a sister Namoni Emerson;
several nieces and nephews.
There are no visiting
hours. A Memorial Service washeld in the chapel of the Waters
Funeral Home, 50 So. Main St. Concord on Tuesday, June 27 at 1:00
PM. The Rev. Dwayne Bailey of the Concord Hospice House and her
brother, Rev. Charles Arsenault co-officiated.
In lieu of flowers,
Donations in her memory may be made to CRVNA – Hospice Program, 33
Pillsbury St., Concord, NH 03301.
