1st Annual Walter Sanborn And John Sawyer Memorial Fire Truck Show

On May 13th, at Webster Park, in Epsom NH, the 1st Annual Walter Sanborn and John Sawyer Memorial Fire Truck Show will be held. This Show will be dedicated to the memory of Walter Sanborn and John Sawyer both longtime fire chiefs and vehicle enthusiasts.

Mr. Sawyer was a lifetime member of the Epsom Fire Department. In 1961, he became a deputy fire warden in Epsom and assistant fire chief under Roscoe Warren. He served as fire chief from 1972 to 1976 and from 1980 to 1986. A mechanic, he did much work on the fire trucks, above and beyond the call of duty. John was a avid fire truck enthusiast and extremely knowledgeable in antique fire apparatus. Chief Sawyer’s privately owned truck will be present and on display.

Walter L. Sanborn, of  Chichester, was a 75-year member of the Chichester Fire Department and Rescue Squad. He served as Fire Chief for 15 years. He also served as a NH Forest Fire Warden for forty years. He was widely known for his knowledge about and his extensive collection of antique automobiles and fire apparatus, which he continued to acquire up to the time of his death. His passion for these resulted in his membership in numerous organizations. He also authored a history of the Chichester Volunteer Fire Department, published in 2008. Chief Sanborn’s privately owned fire trucks will be on display.

The Amoskeag Reserve Engine Company, the New Hampshire Chapter of SPAAMFAA. In conjunction with the Epsom NH, FD are putting on this show. The man behind the idea for this is Paul Sanborn the son of Walter Sanborn and a 45 year fire service veteran himself and fire truck collector. Paul is a retired Concord NH Fire Capt., and continues to serve on the Chi Chester and Loudon NH Fire Depts.

There will be fire apparatus from the 1800’s on up to today. this is opportunity to see the evolution and history of NH fire apparatus throughout the years. It is a family friendly event and is free to the public. The Epsom Fire Dept., Explorer Post will be selling food beverages. There will be trophies presented and much more.
