The Socks for Seniors Boxes have been placed at the Chichester Library and The Attic Thrift Shop for this year’s December sock collection. Chichester Grange is again sponsoring this project. Buy one or more pairs of warm and colorful socks (not necessarily Christmas-themed) and place them in a collection box between now and December 20. The socks will be given to folks in area nursing homes at Christmas.

The Chichester Historical Society will hold an Open House on Sunday, December 10th, from 2-4 p.m. We invite the public to visit our museum on 54 Main Street to see exhibit areas and enjoy refreshments and conversation. A special display on the history of Christmas ornaments will be on view.

Braised Beef is on the menu for the Chichester United Methodist Community Supper on Wednesday, December 13, in the Parish Hall on Main Street. Come at 6 p.m. to enjoy a tasty meal with your neighbors and friends. These suppers are free to all. Donations are gratefully accepted and used toward the cost of future suppers.

Happy Birthday to Edward Millette on December 8.

The Chichester Library still has some boxes of unusable books (torn, dirty, stained, old and smelly). If anyone in the community could use these as fire-starters for a wood stove this winter, please give the Library (798-5613) or Carolee Davison (435-4002) a call. You will have to pick up the boxes at the Library.

Chichester Town Library News

The magical time of the holidays is upon us and those of us at the Chichester Library wish you a wonderful month of memories, both past and present.  We encourage you to reach out to those less fortunate and offer a kind word, a smile or just good wishes.  The Food Pantry can always use donations and the Police Department is working on gifts for the little ones who might not receive them otherwise.  Open your hearts to all!

There is still time to buy a used book, puzzle or cd from the Down Under Used Book area, as well as some featured books upstairs.  Give a reader the gift of a library card at no cost; or, purchase a gift certificate for a present or a stocking stuffer.

It’s also a magical time at the library, since we are welcoming our new Library Director.  Please welcome Jackie Heath right along with us by stopping by and saying hello.  We are fortunate to have her.

Preschool Story and Craft hour will be held tomorrow, Thursday, December 7th, at 10:30 a.m.

The Memory Café will be held at the Epsom Library on Monday, December 11th at 2 p.m.  The theme is “Holiday Generosity.”  Caregivers and people living with memory loss are invited to come and enjoy music, refreshments, activities and supportive socialization.

The Board of Trustees is meeting on Monday, December 11th at 4 p.m.

A special offering will be held on Monday, December 11th at 7 p.m. when Tom Downey and Bruce Dawson present an “Introduction to Web Sites.”  This presentation is geared toward farmers and small business owners, but others are also welcome.  It recognizes that our local farmers and/or small business owners may not have the monetary or technical resources to hire someone to create their own web sites; but, that doesn’t mean they can’t have one.  Come to see what this is all about.

There was an error in last week’s submission concerning the Evening Book Club.  It is meeting on Wednesday, December 13th, at 7 p.m.  The book that will be discussed is Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire.

Don’t forget that on Friday, December 15th is the Pontine Theatre’s presentation of “A New England Christmas” at 7 p.m. at the Grange.

Some of the holiday schedule changes include the Down Cellar Writers having already met this month, when they combined their meeting with the Down Cellar Poets on December 4th.  The library will be closed on Saturday, December 23rd, as well as Monday, December 25th, in celebration of Christmas.  Also, there will be no Preschool Story and Craft Hour on December 28th.

Community Greenspace Gazebo Fund Challenge

If you travel “Historic Main Street” in Chichester,

you may have noticed the fund-raising thermometer attached to a tree near the Greenspace. We are nearing our goal of $10,000. Here’s your, chance to have ownership in the gazebo/Greenspace project.

A challenge has been issued by an anonymous donor. If $1,000 is raised by the end of the year, the donor will match the amount up to the $1,000, thus leveraging the amount to $2,000. What a wonderful opportunity to reach the goal!

We are looking for many donors to meet this cha11enge - $5, $10, $25, or even a dollar or two. Small amounts add up and make a powerful statement of community involvement.

Donations may be sent to: Chichester Heritage Commission, c/o Gazebo Fund, 54 Main St., Chichester, NH 03258. For information about the Greenspace Project, contact Lucille at 798-5709, or Bernie Reinhardt at 736-7074.

A Huge Thank You!!!

Submitted By  Donna Stockman, Chichester Welfare Administrator

It goes without saying that there are some folks who give and give over and over again. Dominicks Restaurant is one of those that continually give, even when they are down. This family has chosen to give to the town of Chichester and Pittsfield over and over again. Lori and Dominick have initiated into their children that that’s just what you do. If you have the ability and the means to raise awareness about a need, then you do it. The Food Pantry in chichester has been lucky to be one of the recipient’s of the rewards. As long as I have been involved with the Welfare Department, Lori and Dominick have given of themselves to provide a gathering spot for dropping of food and health care items for the Food Pantry. At Thanksgiving they collect food, and money to put together baskets.

Then there is Sanels Auto. Just a little different they collect the food from the employees and make up the baskets complete with all the goodies. Kudos to the employees at Sanels for your continued support, so that those less fortunate may have a good healthy meal.

Frank and Susan Merrill donated turkeys to the Chichester Thanksgiving cause. It goes without saying that generous people are what makes this world a nicer place to live.

And to my anonymous donor, who comes every year without fail and hands me two one hundred dollar bills to be used for Thanksgiving baskets and also for Secret Santa, thank you!

It’s a pleasure working the Chichester Welfare position. And it’s for generous folks like this that make it a pleasure. Thank you all, once again.
