Chichester Town Library News

Diane Vaughn has donated a lovely framed photograph of boats to the Chichester Town Library.  Thanks, Diane.

The Knitting Circle meets every Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m., particularly for those who knit and crochet.

The Pre-school Story and Craft Hour occurs every Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m., except during school vacations.

The library will be closed on Monday, October 9th, in honor of Columbus Day.

Although the library will be closed, there will still be a meeting of Library Trustees at 4 p.m. on October 9th.  This is an open meeting for any Chichester residents who are interested in attending.

The Evening Book Club will be meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11th.  The book to be discussed is 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, by Jules Verne.  There have been many years that have passed since this book was written, so we’re expecting some wonderful discussion and conversation because of the advancement of both knowledge and technology, as they relate to “the deep.”

Also on the evening of the 11th, a Fall basket-making class is scheduled.  Diane Mann is the instructor.  This has been a very popular class in the past and we hope you continue to enjoy them and/or join in the fun!  Please contact the library to sign up.

Please don’t forget “Sharing Memories of Lisa” at an Open House at the library on Saturday, October 14th, from 9-12.

Historical Calendar To Benefit Chichester Food Pantry

Chichester 2018 calendar-scan (1).jpg

“Chichester Then and Now,” a 2018 calendar, has been designed by the Chichester Photo Group, in cooperation with the Chichester Historical Society.  The calendar is collectable, as it features archival photographs and a current picture, where possible, of both public and private sites in town.  The photos are accompanied by rich historical commentary from the Historical Society’s research.

The cost of the calendar is $20, with all profits from their sales to be donated to the Chichester Food Pantry.  The Chichester Library, partnering with the Photo Group, will display a sample calendar and accept orders and checks until Saturday, November 4, during regular library hours.  The Town Office at the Grange Hall on Main Street and the Chichester Central School will also have samples and order forms.

It is hoped that local residents will consider supporting the food pantry by purchasing this collectible calendar.  If there are questions, please call either Barbara Sinclair Pappas at 798-3410 or Gail Laker-Phelps at 798-5394.

Letter

Dear Chichester Citizens,

I am now about half way through my first term as Selectman and I wanted to let everyone know how much I enjoy being your selectman.  I have had to deal with a number of  very difficult issues in my role as selectman, but even under those stressful situations, most of our citizens remain respectful and polite and that makes all the difference.

Also, the current Board of Selectman is supportive and we work in a collaborative fashion that leads to efficient productive meetings. Another area that makes me proud to be your selectman is in the last 18 months I have seen such incredible displays of citizen volunteerism.  Old Home Day was a huge success, the haunted walk at the park was great and will be held again this year, the new greenspace at the Town Hall is taking shape, the new building at the park is almost complete, a crosswalk and sidewalk in front of the town hall is in the planning phase, and the list goes on.

A town is only as great as its citizens and I can say in my opinion, Chichester is a great town.  Thank you for allowing me to be your selectman.

Thomas Jameson

Chichester
