Chichester Town Meeting
The warrant was short, the attendance was light, but Chichester’s
Town Meeting on March 15th lasted from 10 a.m. to until after 2 p.m.
Discussion expanded, as it often does, to fill the customary time
period for a Town Meeting.
Chichester will have a new Town Moderator this year. Nathan Cyr was
elected to replace Doug Hall who is retiring, although he will
continue to be School District Moderator. The two men shared the
duties of chairing this Town Meeting to give Mr. Cyr some practice.
The budget passed after money was added so that the 20 year plan of
the Road Advisory Committee for rebuilding town roads could proceed
on schedule at the rate of 1.2 miles of road each year. This summer
two sections of Horse Corner Road and one section of Bear Hill Road
will be redone in addition to the regular maintenance covered by the
Summer Fund.
The rest of the items on the warrant passed as well. Chichester will
purchase and outfit a Forestry/Utility vehicle for the Fire
Department and enter into a ten-year lease/purchase agreement for a
Backhoe/Loader to replace the excavator now owned by the Highway
Department. Money was put into several Capital Reserve Funds.
It was voted to establish a Government Vehicle Maintenance
Expendable Trust Fund with the Selectmen as agents. The idea is to
have money set aside to pay for unanticipated repairs to town-owned
vehicles and thus prevent spikes in the budget. Regular maintenance
costs such as oil changes and tires would be covered in the
department budgets.
The voters agreed that the town should accept the ownership and care
of the Edmunds-Stanton Cemetery on Main Street as requested by the
eldest living descendent. The meeting ended with recognition and
thanks to Doug Hall for his 15 years of service as Town Moderator.
Pack 85 Chichester Cub Scouts held their annual Pinewood
derby on March 16th. Congratulations to our top five racers and to
all the boys who participated. Pictured: Alex Walter, Robby Shaw,
