There is an opportunity for some practice at an indoor facility before it’s warm enough to practice outside, so the CYA is now accepting registrations for T-Ball, Baseball and Softball for this coming season.  If you have a child who will be attending Kindergarten in the fall, they are eligible to play T-Ball this spring.  This is a great opportunity for the children to get to know others with whom they will be going to school.  Registration forms are available @ www.chichesteryouth.com.  Please take this opportunity to get them in ASAP so that teams can be organized and equipment purchased.

Letter

To all Chichester residents,

Last year at the Town Meeting, the Chichester Road Advisory Committee (RAC) presented a 20 year plan to reconstruct/rehabilitate our town’s paved roads. While the Selectmen did not support the plan, the townspeople voted to increase the selectmen’s budget and support the first year of work.

The first three road segments were two on Pleasant Street and one on Kelly’s Corner Road. These were completed on time and under budget last summer.

It has been brought to our attention that the selectmen and budget committee do not support our proposed plan for road reconstruction again this year and have reduced the recommended budget. This would undermine the plan we started last year and change our 20 year plan into a 36 year plan. The RAC does not recommend lengthening this plan as our costs will greatly increase.

This year, the RAC recommends three road segments for reconstruction (two on Horse Corner Road and one on Bear Hill Road). Our proposed budget for this work is slightly less than last year’s voted budget. We would again look forward to all residents to come to town meeting and support the continuation of the 20 year plan for our paved road reconstruction efforts.

The RAC was created by a vote of the town to help decide the future of our town roads. Nine volunteer members of the RAC and our Road Agent have put in countless hours to devise a plan and reassess yearly. Please keep in mind that our town roads are our biggest asset and we cannot put off until future years to take care of our infrastructure. It is a continuing problem throughout the country and it is time to do the right thing and invest in our own infrastructure.  We look forward to seeing all of you at the Town Meeting in March.

Sincerely,

Terry McCormack, Chairman

Chichester Road Advisory Committee

Chichester Town Library News

After a week of school vacation, young people between 5-12 years of age can find an outlet for their creativity with the LEGO Club, meeting on Friday, February 28th from 3-4:30 p.m.  Facilitated by Librarian Lisa Prizio, this group is provided with LEGOs to build whatever they have imagined.

Artist Eleanor Graham will be displaying her work at the Library during the month of March, with a reception planned for Saturday morning, March 8th.

The March raffle item will be a “Lucky Basket o’ Green” in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.  The basket will include an Irish cookbook, a surprise food gift and “Lucky Bucks.”  Come into the Library to see all of the contents of the basket and to purchase your chance(s) to win.

The introduction to “Lucille’s Corner” is being changed to “Lucille’s Discoveries” to better reflect the literary gems, rarities and collectibles that can be found there.  Although a Book Sale is not planned for the month of March, we will be writing about some of the books and items that can be found there.

Lucille’s Discoveries At The Chichester Town Library

Are you attracted to the unique architecture of New England or of the works of regional authors and poets?  Is it art that draws you into a different world, or music?  Are you looking for gardening books that are a step or more above the average?  These along with many other reasons are why you might want to explore the world of Lucille’s Discoveries at the “Down Under” section of the Chichester Town Library.   The books and related items that can be found here have been a treasure to someone else before they came to the Library.  Lucille Noel then reviews them for their unique properties and appeal and brings the most interesting into her world of discoveries.  She has collected some wonderful finds!   The following is a taste of her finds on houses and architecture.

A book on country houses versus one on small houses with big style might invite you to reflect on the residence you have or the one you want.  View American architecture through a vintage postcard collection contained between the covers of a book; or, hone your vision to Cape Cod houses.   There’s also a book on the Arts and Crafts design style in America.  These books might give you ideas of what you might like to do with your home; or, they might emphasize that you have made all of the right decisions.  These explorations can be done on your terms and in your own time, not according to a one-half hour television show that may, or may not, address your interests and/or concerns in residences.

Future articles will address some of the other areas of Lucille’s Discoveries.  “Stay tuned,” as they say in the media.

Chichester Central School

Kindergarten/New First Graders Invited to Register

Do you have a kindergarten child (or a first grader new to Chichester Central) entering in the fall and are unsure what to do?  Kindergarten/new Grade 1 registration will begin on March 7 and run until March 31.  Registration must be done in person between the hours or 9AM and 2 PM at the school.  Parents will be asked to supply a copy of the birth certificate, immunizations, and proof of residency.  The age requirement for entry is age 5 (kindergarten) and age 6 (Grade 1) by September 30.

Children will go through a screening process in May that will allow the kindergarten committee to assess abilities so that the morning and afternoon groups will be evenly balanced. Transportation is provided to school in the morning and at 2:40 (there is no mid-day transportation).  The New Morning School does provide an on-site after-school program for a minimal cost until 5:45.  Parents can call Mrs. Plunkett at 798-5651 for more information.
