There is an opportunity for some practice at an indoor facility before it’s warm enough to practice outside, so the CYA is now accepting registrations for T-Ball, Baseball and Softball for this coming season.  If you have a child who will be attending Kindergarten in the fall, they are eligible to play T-Ball this spring.  This is a great opportunity for the children to get to know others with whom they will be going to school.  Registration forms are available @ www.chichesteryouth.com.  Please take this opportunity to get them in ASAP so that teams can be organized and equipment purchased.

Chichester Town Library News

The romance of February continues at the Book Sale on Saturday, February 22nd, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.  Attendees can expect to find some special deals on selected groups of romances!  There are DVDs and puzzles available.  Disney VCR tapes will be priced at 2 for 25˘.  And, as always, there are books on all types of subject and of many genres.

Also available at the Book Sale are the unique finds of “Lucille’s Corner,” featuring specialty books that are often collectible and are, of course, at bargain prices.  For example, there are books on architecture and historical homes, as well as the “old ways.”  Art books and prints comprise three shelves of the corner and there are two shelves of regional authors/subjects, including the poetry of Maxine Kumin.  There are children’s and young people’s books and book sets.  It is an understatement to say there are some very old and unique books, including the book 1890 Diseases of the Horse, which has both black and white and colored plates.  Obviously, there is much more to be found there, so make sure you take a look at it.

A Heritage Commission meeting for Chichester will meet at the Library on Thursday, February 20th, at 7 p.m.  This meeting is also an open meeting and focuses on the preservation of Chichester’s historic and scenic sites.

The Down Cellar Writers group meets on Monday, February 24th at 7 p.m.

The Chichester Garden Club meets on Wednesday, February 26th at 7 p.m.

Organization Fair

Eighteen organizations, clubs, commissions, and committees were represented at Chichester Grange’s Organization Fair held on February 7. Representatives from the Chichester Library, the LOCL – a library support group, the Garden Club, the Heritage Commission, the Chichester Fire Department, the Agriculture Commission, the Chichester-Epsom Lions Club, the Historical Society, Chichester Grange, Chichester PTO, the Conservation Commission, the Chichester Photo Group, the Cub Scouts, the CYA. the Bee Hole Beavers Snowmobile Club, the Old Home Day Committee, the Road Advisory Committee, and Parks and Recreation.  There were fine displays from the Garden Club, the Photo Group, the Heritage Commission, the Historical Society, the Grange, and the Lions Club. Unfortunately, what was missing was the audience. What does that tell us? Was it the wrong day or the wrong time of year? Does no one care? Were the only joiners in Chichester already in the room?

Since all of these fine groups are looking for members, we aren’t giving up. For the next few months the Chichester News column will feature a different organization each week. Look for contact information and perhaps there will be a group that appeals to you.
