The Chichester Library artist of the month for June is Mike White
from Pittsfield. Mike is intrigued at how we can pass the same barn,
the same bridge, the same stone wall every day and barely notice the
simple beauty of the passing seasons. The photos that grace our
walls are five sets of the same scene, taken during each of the four
seasons. Please drop in to see them, they are just beautiful. You’ll
recognize some places you’ve seen in your travels. You can see more
of Mike’s photos on her web site, at

The University of Connecticut recently announced the students who
attained the Dean’s List for the spring 2012 semester. To make the
Dean’s List, students must be taking at least 12 credits, finish the
semester with a grade point average that is among the top 25 percent
of students enrolled in their school or college, and have no grade
below a "C."
Congratulations Kelsey Elizabeth Richardson.

Camping season is upon us! Lucky for some folks, we have saved and
have out several flannel shirts, fleece tops, sweatshirts, even a
few winter jackets for the chilly, downright cold nights at the camp
ground. A family from Tennessee was very glad to find us on our last
rainy weekend.
We have camping items such as knives, forks, and spoons for 25¢. You
won’t mind if they "disappear." We also have some pots, pans,
dishes, quilts, blankets, games and puzzles for young and old. For
the kids, we have several dolls and some small trucks and cars, very
inexpensive and as always, lots of books.
We are located on Route 28, Chichester, near the Pittsfield line. We
are open Mon. 8-12, Tues. and Thurs. 8-4, Wed. 11-4, and Sat. 10-4.
You can call us at 247-7191.

Chichester Central Graduation
On June 14 at 6 pm Chichester Central’s Class of 2012 marched into
the Multi-Purpose Room, led by class marshals Julia Nadeau and Emma
York. Class Secretary Nick Eastman gave a welcome followed by a
musical presentation by Kaylie Smith and Josiah Putman.
In the Commencement Address, Sarah Harkness compared the elementary
school experience to Eric Carle’s book "The Hungry Caterpillar."
Starting small in Kindergarten, class members gobbled up knowledge
and experience and are now ready to emerge from Chichester Central
School as beautiful butterflies, eager for new horizons.
Then the room was plunged into darkness for two videos. The first
video was a reenactment of the Battle of Bull Run done by the Class
of 2012 as a Social Studies project. This was followed by Mrs.
Dockham’s traditional video salute to the graduating class.
Principal Pam Stiles took the podium to praise the entire class for
their achievements and their strength of character before presenting
several awards to class members. The Kempton Ricker Award was given
to Kyle Menard. Sarah Harkness and Josiah Putman received American
Legion Awards from the present and future commanders of Legion Post
in Epsom. The Irene Ricker Awards went to Collin Justin and Abby
McIntosh. The Chichester Teachers Association award was presented to
Alyssa Bras.
Mrs. Stiles then recognized the students who had achieved scores
above the national average on the Scholastic Achievement Test. They
were: Alyssa Bras, Jonah Bras, Tyler Catucci, Nick Eastman, Richard
Hammond, Angus Jameson, Sarah Harkness, Kyle Menard, Matt Morey, and
Josiah Putman. Kyle Menard received a medal for achieving the
highest score in the class.
The Chris Thomas Award for Athletic Achievement was given to Collin
Justin. Sarah Harkness and Angus Jameson were recipients of the PTO
Awards. The Michael Booth award went to Nick Eastman, and Mrs. Bea
Douglas presented the Mike Pszonowsky Award to Haley McCleary.
Each year the A. Allan Clark – Freda Jones Award is presented to an
adult who is an Outstanding Volunteer. This year’s Outstanding
Volunteer was Melissa Clay. The Sanborn Scholarship is also
presented each year at graduation time to a Chichester resident who
is attending or about to attend college. This year two scholarships
were awarded to Meghan Jenks and Eli McTigue.
Mrs. Stiles and School Board Chairman Ben Brown then presented
diplomas to Allison Bachelder, Patrick Berry, Emi Besho, Alyssa
Bras, Jonah Bras, Tyler Catucci, Muriel Curran, Nick Eastman,
Richard Hammond, Sarah Harkness, Angus Jameson, Collin Justin, Jodi
Mattice-Collins, Haley McCleary, Abby McIntosh, Kyle Menard, Matt
Morey, Josiah Putman, Trever Russell, Jacob Salach, Kaylie Smith,
Ashley Stone, and Heidi Sykes.
Obituaries
Walter L. Sanborn
Walter L. Sanborn, of Chichester, died on June 10, following a brief
period of declining health. In 2008, he was predeceased by Alice,
his beloved wife of nearly 66 years.
Walter was born in Chichester on April 8, 1920, and, except for a
period during World War II, was a life-long resident of the town,
which he loved and to which he was deeply committed. He was involved
in numerous town boards and committees, including serving several
terms as a Selectman. He was a 75-year member of the Chichester Fire
Department and Rescue Squad. He served as Fire Chief for 15 years.
He also served as a NH Forest Fire Warden for forty years.
He was widely known for his knowledge about and his extensive
collection of antique automobiles and fire apparatus, which he
continued to acquire up to the time of his death. His passion for
these resulted in his membership in numerous organizations. He was
also interested in historical preservation, land conservation and
agriculture, expressed in part by his long membership in the
Chichester Grange.
Walter was a life-long member and former trustee of the Chichester
United Methodist Church. His faith was an essential and daily part
of his life. He was a regular participant in men’s prayer breakfast
groups. He was also a member of Corinthian Masonic Lodge No. 82.
He was a charter member of the Chichester Historical Society and an
amateur town historian. He researched and wrote nearly 200 articles
of local historical interest, many of which were published in The
Suncook Valley Sun. He was working on additional topics at the time
of his death. He also authored a history of the Chichester Volunteer
Fire Department, published in 2008.
Survivors include his daughter Nancy Boyd and husband Jack, son Paul
and wife Kim, of Chichester; and son Peter and partner Greg Jackson,
of Boston. He is also survived by five grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his "son" Elson Bercasio
of the Philippines, who he adopted via Children’s International.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the
Chichester Historical Society, the Chichester United Methodist
Church, the Chichester Firefighters Association, or to a charity of
one’s choice.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 16, at the Chichester
United Methodist Church with a firefighters procession to the church
from the Chichester Fire and Rescue facility. Internment of his
ashes is at the Leavitt Cemetery.
