Chichester Library News
Conrad Young, from Concord, NH, will be
the featured artist at the Chichester Town Library during the
month of September. An opening reception will be held on
Friday, September 9th at 7:00.
Conrad Young, a native of New
Hampshire, received his art education at the prestigious Van Emburge
School of Art in Plainfield, NJ. He later took advanced
courses at New York University. This training led to the successful
founding (and lifetime career) of the Young Advertising Agency.
Conrad considers himself fortunate to have grown up on small farms
in Maine and New Hampshire. His father, a logger and blacksmith,
also raised horses. So much of his youth was spent in the
woods and hay fields.
His passion for the mountains, lakes, and
woodlands is evident in the landscapes he enjoys capturing in
watercolors. Each scene is a childhood memory with unique
lighting, composition, and unusual arrangement of elements and
colors. Don’t miss this beautiful art show.
Chichester Old Home Day: The Apple Pie Stories
The first place
winner in the Pie Baking Contest at Chichester’s Old Home Day was
Anne Boisvert. Last year after judging the pie contest, her sister
Mary called and said, “None of the pies was as good as yours; you
have to enter next year.” Anne took the challenge and, sure
enough, the judges thought her pie was the best.
The second place
winner was Tammy Jameson. She had been on the fence about entering,
but at the last minute she baked her pie and took it over to
Carpenter Park. It was still warm, and the judges thought it was
delicious.
Brittany Welcome’s third place pie has the best story
of all. Here it is in her own words: “Many years ago, Reverend
Franklin Parker grafted an apple tree on my family’s property in
Chichester, NH. This tree grew in the backyard of my great
grandparents, Benjamin and Eleanor Shaw, for years. This tree and
piece of history is now in the backyard of my Aunt and Uncle,
Benjamin and Donna Brown. The apples in this pie were hand picked
from that very same tree. Please enjoy this pie and remember the
rich history of our very own hometown, Chichester, NH.”
