Out Of Your Attic Thrift Shop News

I’ve heard a new term for items that come into the shop; “repurposed accessories.”  This would include a supply of odds and ends for making memory platters.  Purchase a shallow tray, with straight sides, and plexi glass inside.  Enclose your sea glass, postcards, a favorite necklace; anything to help remember the summer.

The boy scouts almost cleaned out our candle supply, to light trails they would hike on at night.  Along with candles, we can use jewelry.

We will be having great sales on dust ruffles, (great for material) fabric pieces, yarn, sewing and knitting patterns.  Don’t forget our 25¢ sale after month end (in this case July).  All clothing tags that are red and black are 25¢, excluding gowns and jackets.

Come see us Mon. 8-12, Tues. and Thurs. 8-4, Wed. 11-4, Fri. and Sat. 10-4 at 345 Suncook Valley Hwy, Chichester.  Our phone number is 247-7191.

Chichester Central School News

The summer weeks have gone by quickly and the staff is looking forward to welcoming back all of the students for the 2011-2012 school year.  Summer school is over, the rooms are prepared, supplies are in, new students are registering, staff members have taken part in professional development, and a whole host of other activities have taken place over the course of the summer break.  All students should have received a “welcome back” letter from their homeroom teacher which listed the necessary supplies for the start of the year.

August 31 is the first day of school!  Children who are dropped off should arrive as close to 8:15 as possible, although there will be a supervised area in the building between 8:00 and 8:15.  For those families that need to get an early start to the day, a new YMCA Before School Care program will be offered from 7-8 am.  Parents interested can call the YMCA at 290-7123.

Please make sure to check the bus routes as there have been some minor changes; specific bus stops/times have been posted at the school’s main office area.  The lunch price for this year will be $2.25; $3.50 for adults wishing to enjoy a fine meal in the middle of the day.

Incoming kindergartners are invited to ride the bus to school on Tuesday, August 30th.  The bus will leave the town hall at 9:00 (am class) and 10:00 (pm class) and students with a parent will be greeted at the school.  After a 45-minute stay to get acquainted, the bus will return to the town offices.

All incoming first grade students may visit their classroom from 11:00-11:45 on Tuesday, the 30th.  The PTO will be hosting the Back to School Barbecue on Wednesday, September 7 at 5:00.  After everyone is well fed, families are encouraged to meet the teachers and tour the school as part of the annual Open House.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back; enjoy what remains of the summer!

Chichester Heritage Commission

The 2nd Annual Woodpile Photo Contest is about to begin!  If you have a woodpile that you are proud of, send or give a photo of that woodpile to a member of the commission.  The woodpile must be on your own land.  The photos will be displayed in our booth at Old Home Day.  The winner will be determined by popular vote.  The winner will receive a free cord of wood.  So put your camera to work!

Have you noticed the spot of color by the NH State Register of Historic Places plaque at the Grange Hall?  The flowers surround the granite post on the street side of the Grange.  The Grange Hall celebrated its one year anniversary State Register listing on July 19th.

Making its debut at Old Home Day will be the Commission’s “Discover and Explore Historic Main Street” brochure.  This tri-fold brochure celebrates Chichester’s rural character by highlighting Main Street.  Check it our at our booth.

Have you noticed that some of the Grange/Town Hall windows are in need of repair?  The Heritage Commission is spearheading a “One Pane at a Time” project to replace broken panes, reglaze the 12 pane bathroom window, and repair an animal damaged window in the Grange kitchen.  See more details at our Old Home Day booth.

Find out about Chichester’s Heritage Commission, the woodpile photo contest, the Main Street brochure, or the window project by contacting any member:  Michelle Plunkett, Kate Rafferty-Hall, Barbara Frangione, Dawn Marshall, Patty Humprey, Jeff Jordan, Bob McAnney, Faye McAnney, or Lucille Noel.  Details on the woodpile photo contest are posted on the town’s website, Chichester Heritage Commission.  You can also call 798-5709 for information about the Commission and its mission.
