There is no better way to start Mother’s Day than with a home cooked
breakfast buffet prepared and served by your friends and neighbors;
the volunteers of the Chichester Fire Department.
Please come
and join us for a delicious buffet breakfast of pancakes, eggs, home
fries, sausage, English muffin, coffee, tea, juice, or milk. The
cost of the breakfast is $7.00 for adults and $4.00 for children
under 10. All proceeds/donations to benefit the Chichester
Firefighters Association.

support and we hope to see you on Sunday May 8th.
Pittsfield Area Senior Center’s monthly events for May will include
a Helping Hands craft session beginning at 9:30 am on Wednesday, May
11th. During this time, things are made for people who are in
need of support. On Thursday, May 12th, during lunch,
birthdays will be celebrated with cake and ice cream. On
Tuesday, May 10th at 12:45 pm, a Senior Center planning meeting will
be held. You are invited to come and help plan activities and
events. On Monday, May 23rd at 9:00 am, a VNA Health Clinic
will be held upstairs. Call 724-8915 to make an appointment.
On Saturday May 14, 2011, the Epsom Post Office will
again participate in the Letter Carriers’ Food Drive which takes
place all across the nation. The food donations will be collected
when the rural mail is delivered that day. This food drive is an
important source of supply for our local food pantries, so please
make an effort to participate.
Speaking of food, there
is a program out there called “Plant an Extra Row.” The idea is to
plant an extra row of something in your garden, and, when it
matures, donate the produce to your local food pantry. I’m not sure
if Chichester will have a planned program, but, if you should be
planting a garden, keep the Chichester Food Pantry in mind and put
in an extra row.
Did you forget that all dogs need to
be licensed by April 30? If so, check with the Town Clerk ASAP, and
please make sure that rabies shots are up to date. If you no longer
have your dog, please notify the Town Clerk so records can be
updated.
The Chichester Historical Society will be
holding a yard sale on Saturday, May 7th, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.,
rain or shine, in front of the museum at 49 Main Street.
Chichester Library will be holding a Book Sale on Saturday, May 7,
from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come to the back of the Library on Pound Road
and purchase from an enormous selection of books of all types.
On May 9th at 7 p.m. Ian Blackman will present the program
“Barns – Common Problems and Solutions” at the Chichester Historical
Society’s Museum on 49 Main Street. Blackman, a Chichester resident,
has been a barn restorer for many years and has worked as a
consultant for the NH Preservation Alliance. This program is free of
charge and open to the public.
The Chichester Town
Library has recently added the following audio books for your
listening pleasure: Roots by Alex Haley, Stori Telling by Tori
Spelling, Dark Voyage, by Alan Furst, Life Strategies for Dealing
with Bullies, by Jay McGraw, and The Odyssey by Homer. In the Young
Adult Fiction Section look for these titles: Matched by Ally Condle,
I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore, and The Darlings Are Forever by
Melissa Kantor.
Letter
To a Very Special Graduate
On May 7th 2011 our mother, Mary-Ann
Lebel, will graduate Magna Cum Laude with an Applied Associates
Degree from Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin,
Tennessee.
She has shown unbelievable stamina and an unwavering
drive towards a degree for a career she has dreamed of all her life.
She talked, listened and provided me and my two sisters strength
during each one of our personal journeys through college and we
couldn’t have done it without her love and support. So on May 7th,
when our mother receives her much earned degree and joins the ranks
of three daughters with honors college degrees, we say “We love you
Mom and we couldn’t be more proud.”

Chichester Historical Society
The Society will be holding a yard

will be held, rain or shine, in front of the museum at 49 Main
Street. We are in need of donations to the sale. If you

enjoy the beauty of the construction of an old barn? If you
do, The Chichester Historical Society has an evening presentation

I
have some rather sad news this time. Our sister store in
Laconia has closed. Years ago, traffic and business was
booming in Laconia. Unfortunately, that is not the case these
days. The store could not meet the high expenses, so the best
thing to do was consolidate into one location.
The sewing center will
remain open and layette bags will continue to be made; sweaters,
hats and mittens crocheted and knit and hopefully, the “elf” work
will still be done out of the sewing center.
We truly appreciate
all you do. If you can donate water, quart bags, or sandwich
bags, that would help. We are working on expanding our hours
so the good people who volunteered in Laconia can continue helping.
Maybe we will be able to open on a Friday to meet your weekend
needs.

Chichester Library News
Do you need to practice reading? Would
you like to read to Felix and Felicia. Felix and Felicia are
two very large and gentle bull mastiff dogs and they love to
sit and listen to children read. They don’t mind if you read
slow or fast. They don’t mind if you mispronounce a
word. They would just love to be with you. Call
the library and tell Lisa when you’d like to come. 798-5613.
Our
second teen reading group will be on Friday, May 6th, at 7:00. We will be discussing The Adoration of Jenna Fox.
Our 2nd book
sale this year will be Sat. May 7th from 8:00 to 1:00.
We have a
new poetry center at the library. You are welcome to come in
and write poetry here. If you wish you may hand in a poem that
you wrote and we will put them all in a book, which will remain on
the library shelf.
Chichester Heritage Commission
“May is Preservation Month”
The Chichester Heritage Commission has some membership positions
currently unfilled. If you are interested in the preservation of
historic, cultural and scenic resources of our town, you might wish
to attend some of our meetings. The commission works in an
advisory capacity to protect these resources valued for their
aesthetic and community significance.
We work to list
historic town owned properties in the State Historic Register.
The Grange Hall was listed in 2010. We will be working soon to
prepare the inventory for the 1791 building that is now the home of
the Chichester Town Library. Also “in the works,” is a
Historic and Cultural Resources chapter written by the commission
for inclusion in the Town’s Master Plan. Other initiatives
include the Canterbury Road Tree Project and the preparation of a
brochure to highlight our scenic Main Street.
Meeting are held
the third Thursday of every month. The next meeting will be
May 19th at 7 p.m. at the town library, 161 Main Street. All
are welcome. Please check us out! Minutes are posted on
the town’s website. Chichester Heritage Commission brochures
are available in the lobby of the Town Offices and at the town
library.
