Happy Birthday to Julia Nadeau on November 25th.
The Chichester Town Pantry would like to
thank the citizens of Chichester for their
donations to the Boy Scout Food Drive. I would
especially like to recognize Linda Rauter and Sherry
Brackett for their donation of time inspecting,
sorting, and stocking the town’s portion of the
food. We are still in need of dish and laundry
detergent as well as toilet paper and hygiene items.
Thank you for caring.

Canterbury Road Tree Project
The majority of magnificent
sugar maple trees bordering the western end of Chichester’s
Canterbury Road east of Main Street are dying or now dead.
Planted 75 years ago to shade a dirt highway; time, travel, age
and disease have led to their demise. Gone now is the
scenic foliage splendor of years ago, as recently as the turn of
this century. Their country setting has changed. The
residents want it back.
Twenty-seven maple trees would need
to be removed. New trees should be planted in their stead.
With disease-resistant stock, proper planting, reduced highway
salt, care and attention, neighbors are hoping for a revival.
The Chichester Heritage Commission has expressed a working
interest in an effort to restore this natural heritage to the
area. In a letter to local residents, it is asking for
commitment to such a reforestation project.
Citing a need for
trees, volunteer labor, care-givers, planting equipment and
funding, the Commission sees beginning the project in the spring
of 2011 and expects taking more than one year to complete.
Ho!
Ho! Ho!
The Chichester Police and The Chichester Police
Association are once again sponsoring the Secret Santa Program
for needy Chichester residents. We will be accepting
applications until December 10, 2010. Applications may be
picked up at the Chichester Police department.
If you
are aware of a family that needs assistance, please make the
police department aware. If anyone would like to volunteer
to be an elf and do shopping or wrapping or both, please call
the police department at 798-4911. If anyone would like to
make monetary donations, please make checks out to the
Chichester Police Department.
This program is based on need
and then we try to make smiles appear with surprises from Santa.
Once again, we wish to say thank you for all your continued
support to this most worthwhile program.
Out
Of Your Attic Thrift Shop News
Submitted By Carol Hendee
The yard sale in Laconia for Baby Threads was a huge success
and preparations are well underway for the preparation of the
Christmas Gift Bags. The gift bags for young children and
teens will be distributed in the surrounding communities,
including Chichester.
The Attic also benefited in that
we have more new merchandise that was left over from the yard
sale.
There is nice dishware, glassware, an exercise
machine, many items for Christmas decoration-both indoor and
outdoor. Also, cute Christmas books and tapes for
children, Christmas cards and gift bags.
On the flip
side, what we have a need for at this time are twin size
blankets or comforters, shampoo for children and adults, and
baby onesies and playsuits for 0-3 month old babies. Also,
new books for children to put in the bags that go home
from the hospital with new mothers.
If you want to
drop off a non-perishable food item for Christmas food baskets,
you can do that at our store at 345 Suncook Valley Hwy,
Chichester, on Tues. or Thurs. 8-4, Wed. 11-4 and Sat. 10-4.
Chichester Grange News
Chichester Grange #132 met on November
17th. This week’s program was show and tell.
Walter Sanborn started us off with a book of postcards that his
wife Alice had collected with a patriotic theme.
Apparently Germany produced the best postcards. Paul Davis
brought a hillbilly flashlight (a stick of wood with matches
attached!). Rhoda brought a souvenir program book from
when National Grange was last in New Hampshire in 1913.
Alice Hilliard brought souvenirs of her step niece’s green
wedding.
The seating arrangement was organized by Vermont
mountains with rock tower signs! Kevin Belval brought in
his broomball equipment. Carolee Davison showed a picture
of the old schoolhouse she used to live in on Horsecorner Road.
Mary West showed off a quilt that Kathy Hodges made as a wedding
present. Hannah West brought a stuffed Brontosaur that
represents how Grange is not extinct. She plans to use it
in the fair exhibit next year. Fred Carlson brought a
demonstration display for a Gillette razor, his most spectacular
coupon display so far.
Other highlights of the meeting
included welcoming a new member and many lovely thank you notes
from Chichester Central School. The Grange recently
presented each of the Chichester third graders with a
dictionary.
After the meeting everyone enjoyed
delicious refreshments provided by Carolee Davison.
On
Saturday, November 13th, the Cub Scouts of Pack 85 in Chichester
joined together with scouts all over our nation to participate
in the annual Scouting for Food event. The Chichester Cubs
collected, sorted, and counted 1982 food items throughout the
morning. The food donated is distributed to many local food
banks including our Chichester food pantry to assist those right
in our own community. A big THANK YOU to the Chichester citizens
for your help in making this one of our most successful Scouting
for Food drives yet!
